We set out to discover what makes a truly great one…

Spending time with Steve Downs from ECSUS Design changed how we think about alpine property.

Yes; beautiful timber, clean lines and attractive, light-filled spaces. But behind the scenes, these properties are designed to work with the mountains, not against them - harnessing natural resources to minimise impact on the environment:

- Airtight structure for ultimate efficiency
- Thermal engineering + orientation to handle freezing winters and hot summer sun
- Ventilation, heat recovery & solar integration built in

The result? Properties that use up to ⅔ less energy than traditional builds while actually feeling better to stay in. Warm and cosy in winter, cool and comfortable in summer, with optimum air quality throughout.

We’re lucky enough to have one in our collection - Chalet Rivière in Montriond, constructed by ECSUS themselves.
