When the sun meets cloud on a Somme December day the contrasts are beautiful. Today it was as if Old Jock at Newfoundland Park was surveying beloved Highland mountains. La a’ bhlair ‘s math na Cairdean. Friends are good on the day of battle.

Thank you James and Jake for your visit, comradeship and for visiting The Somme at this time of year, braving the wintry elements just as the lads did 109 years ago. Your visits always inspire us and safe onward.

So the sun sets on my last visit of the year to the Old front line.

I was in great company with and we went through all 4 seasons in a few days. Snow, Sun, Rain and wind. Many miles covered in both the Ypres Salient and the Somme.

Thanks once again to David and Julie .fifty6 for their usual amazing hospitality and culinary delights.
