Château Clerbaud

Château Clerbaud , sitting in the Parc des Clairbaudières is a beautiful 13th century château that is being renovated to open in the summer of 2026.

The painting of the panelling under the stairs in the entrance hall is finished. Half of this panelling is new as we blocked up an old doorway under the stairs - not that you can tell now 😀

Clearing up in the side moat ready for some more wall repairs 😀

Refurbishment of one of the cellar doors continues. The back of the door has had three good coats of exterior paint. The cellar is cold an a little damp so the inside of the door needs protection! It looks better for the paint.

Each year I have to wax and oil the exterior oak doors because the sun dries them out so much. This ancient door is the oldest in the chateau. At least 500 or 600 years old and maybe even older. It was quite neglected when we first arrived. But, after some hard work removing the old, baked on paint it looks so much better.

Another window, frame and stonework all fully restored. Shutters are in progress and will be back on for the winter.

As the lake is so low it is a good time to pull out all of the branches from fallen oak trees. Looks a lot tidier now. Many thanks to Lee for his efforts wading in the water!

In preparation for winter, all the horse chestnut saplings are protected by new metal fencing so that they do not become food for the deer!
