Moliere headed three rival companies: the Marais, the Hotel de Bourgogne, and the Palais Royal. After Moliere's death, the Hotel de Bourgogne company and the one of Hotel Guenegaud joined into one troupe. The company was composed of twenty-seven actors and actresses chosen by the king for their excellence in order to make the perfect commedia performances. Thus, the Comedie Francaise was created.
