Last Day!

Located on the hill of Montmartre at the corner of rue Saint-Vincent and rue des Saules, one of the best kept secrets of Paris lies here since the 1930′s: the only remaining vineyard called Clos Montmartre.

Each October is the annual five-day grape harvest festival, La Fête des Vendanges. This year, the theme is poetry and great poets who lived in Montmartre. There are classes, lectures, shows and small exhibitions, with the main event, a parade, on Saturday afternoon. Local musicians, folkloric societies and artists all take part, but also many wine and dining societies come to flaunt their coats of arms and velvet robes. Fireworks light up the Sacré Coeur on Saturday night, and the closing on Sunday features many concerts. So enjoy music and activities, drink wine and try traditional french delicacies, overlooking one of the most spectacular views over Paris.

Montmartre’s grapes are harvested and brought down to the cellar the 18th district’s city hall where they are pressed, fermented and bottled. The 1,000 to 1,500 bottles produced are auctioned. Two prices are available: 20 or 40 euros per bottle which is fairly expansive considering the medium quality of the wine. But the money raised goes to charity.

Hey! Don’t forget!

The 31st edition of “Paris Open House” (also known as “Heritage Days” or “Les Journées du Patrimoine” in French) is taking place this weekend on Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21 2014.
This cultural-year highlight gives Parisians the chance to visit and explore behind the closed doors of the Capital’s biggest, most renowned or most secret historical monuments for free.

We recommend you to visit La Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, also called “CIUP” or “Cité U”. It is a private park and foundation located close from the hotel. Since 1925, it has provided general and public services, including the maintenance of several dozen residences for students and visiting academics in the Île-de-France region, and has been officially recognized as a foundation of public interest since then.

CIUP was established after the World War 1 in order to create a meetingplace for students, researchers and intellectuals from around the world in a spirit of peace, unity and friendly cooperation.
Several structures have been designed by architects of note, such as Le Corbusier, Willem Marinus Dudok, Heydar Ghiai and Claude Parent. The residences are organized mostly by nationality, although residents in each maison are not necessarily from the country implied by the naming of the building. Up to 30%-50% of the student residents in each maison may come from 130 different nationalities.

Last days to see the exhibition “Picasso in Montmartre”!

Picasso at 20 years old: this is the subject of the exceptional comic book by Julie Birmant and Clément Oubrerie, published in January 2012 by Dargaud Editions. To celebrate the publication of the fourth and final volume of the series, the Museum of Montmartre presents the original drawings of Clément Oubrerie, showcased in the museum galleries alongside complementary documents such as the photographs, drawings and books already part of the permanent collections.
We also recommend you to have a rest in the Renoir Gardens that surround the Museum. They offer breathtaking views of the vineyard, the Clos Montmartre, and northern cityscape of Paris! A little haven of countryside in Paris ;)

Look up and dive into the starry sky...

It’s the last night of “The Nuit des Etoiles”, the only time of year you can easily see the Perseids: a meteor shower that radiates from the Perseus constellation.
Just be patient, lie back and relax, contemplating the milky way, nebulas, galaxies and shooting stars. One piece of advice: The Montparnasse tower is the best viewpoint in Paris. Enjoy! ;)

14 July is Bastille Day in France! Here are the best plans for you to enjoy the French national day ;)

1 - French Military Parade from 9 AM to 12 NOON (infantry troops, motorized troops, aircraft show).
The parade passes down the Champs-Elysées from l’Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Concorde where the President of the French Republic, his government and foreign ambassadors to France stand. This is a popular event in France, broadcast on French TV, and is the oldest regular military parade in the world.

2 - In the afternoon, the Champs Elysées Avenue is closed off to traffic and exclusively reserved for pedestrians and cyclists from 2 to 6 PM.

3 – You will be able to meet the soldiers just after the Parade! It is a rare opportunity for people to discover the men and women that defend their country and to talk to them about their profession and their missions in a convivial way. This event will take place across 9 sites in Paris:
Esplanade des Invalides (7th) - Place de la Nation (11th, 12th & 20th) - Jardin des Tuileries (1st) -Place du Panthéon (5th) - Place Saint Sulpice (6th) - Place de l'Opéra (9th) - Gare de l’Est (10th) - Place Péclet (15th) - Place Armand Carrel (19th)

4 - Entrance to the Louvre Museum is free on 14 July…

5 - The popular funfair in the Tuileries gardens. It’s one of the biggest festive summer events in Paris, when all Parisians and tourists gather to party! Enjoy pancakes, waffles, donuts, churros, marshmallows, cotton candy… between carnival rides, the big wheel, games, bumper cars, ghost train…

6 - The spectacular Eiffel Tower Fireworks will be launched from Bassins du Trocadéro and will start around 11PM and will last 35 minutes. It is preceded by Bastille Day Concert, a classical music concert on the Champ de Mars from 9:30 to 11 PM. This year, the French National Orchestra will commemorate the centenary of the First World War (1914-1918). If you are in Paris on 14 July, it is a great experience to behold, even if it means an early start to get a good view!
The crowds gather under the Eiffel Tower and on the Champ-de-Mars to watch the spectacular firework display. The Trocadero is another favourite spot for spectators with the view from across the river.

7 - Fireman’s ball in the fire stations
If a night of dancing is your inspiration, then this is the special event for you! From 9 PM to 4 AM. There may be an entrance fee. If not, the traditional ‘barrel’ will be left out for those who wish to make donations. The money collected will be used to improve the working conditions of staff.
Various events take place including music, DJs, drinks, and even a firemen st******se!
