Episode 7📍Square Suzanne Buisson

A quiet garden that carries more history than it lets on 🖤

Named after Suzanne Buisson - a French Resistance activist deported and killed at Auschwitz in 1944 - this terraced square is one of Montmartre’s most peaceful hidden corners.

At its heart stands a statue of Saint-Denis, the first bishop of Paris, holding his own severed head. Legend has it he washed it in the very fountain that once stood on this spot and that « Montmartre » itself comes from Mons Martyrum, the mountain of martyrs.

Today, locals come here to play pétanque under the plane trees, while the rest of the world walks right past.
