Pretty chateau near to La Ruche, a possible candidate for Francis Crawford's Chateau de Sevigné (from the Lymond chronicles, by Dorothy Dunnett). Part of my idle wanderings in his footsteps. DD has taken me on many journeys, and they are lovely to share.

Images from the Royal Chateau of Blois, on the Loire river. A beautiful setting for some of the great scenes in Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond Chronicles (apart from it's own extraordinary real life dramas, from the XVth century onwards). The famous staircase is reputed to have been designed by Leonardo da Vinci, before he died, not far away, in Amboise, having been invited by the young Francoise Ist to come and live and work in France. Blois is a lovely little town, full of history and thoroughly worth a visit, summer or winter. Only an hour's drive from La Ruche.

Master class in bee-keeping, with René from Les Apiculteurs Reunis, in the lovely Loire valley region of South West France. All well until this camera-person...

Just as well we had no guests this weekend........bees everywhere! But with luck the small old ruchette that René, the master bee-keeper, has perched precariously on the gutter below the chimney stack will be an enticingly attractive alternative new des.res, rather than clinging to the outside ( in wind and rain) of their old home. May take a couple of days.......fingers crossed. Otherwise a fantastic opportunity to learn the skills need to keep bees, in beautiful surroundings. Let's hope the swarm gets tired of roughing it and moves house, asap!
