This page is where I share information about my gîte (holiday home rental/vacation rental) and blog posts that I write. You will find information on the holiday home itself, the local area, what's on and ideas of things to do. Christine and Andrew, our lovely regular Parisian guests, soaking up the February sun at Lou Messugo. February is a fabulous time to visit: full of festivals, flowers, sunshine and fun! Just saying!

This Sunday (18 Oct) it's the lovely Fête de la Courge in Châteauneuf de Grasse. A quirky, seasonal and very orange fair.

I wrote about it years ago on the blog and would love to link it here but Facebook has changed the rules and I can now only link to outside websites twice a month for free....grrrr.

There are a few new people following this page, which is great! Welcome! Are you aware I also write a blog, going into depth on subjects that interest me, relative to holidaying (and living) on the Côte d'Azur.
I started writing in 2012 and at times was very prolific. Nowadays I write less but I do try to keep old posts up to date, regularly editing them.
I write about many different subjects from where to find the best places to swim in rivers, the famous blue chairs in Nice, a guide to the museums on the French Riviera to How to drink coffee like a French person and scenic train rides on the Côte d'Azur ! I've written a guide to Roquefort les Pins, local beaches, playgrounds in the area and much more.

Why not grab something to drink and pop over for a nosey? There's a search box to type in key words if you're after something specific and categories to help you navigate through the different subjects.
(And just as an aside, browsing through different posts, clicking from one to another, helps Google see what a useful resource my website is, which helps in search results, which might well bring me further bookings for the gite! It's not just vanity metrics, every little click helps!)

Roquefort has a communal wood-fired bread oven which until now has only been used from time to time on fête days. But we got a new mayor earlier this year and one of his election promises was to get the oven functioning regularly; to be used by the people of Roquefort. And apparently from this Saturday onwards it's going to be lit every Saturday from 10.00 - 14.00 for anyone and everyone to use! I look forward to seeing it in action and will report back.

Our first guest in 2026, Liz, has been to stay so many times it's hard to count. Remember when I said that Sally (3 lots of guests ago) was our "most far-flung returning guest"? Well it's probably a toss-up with Liz who's visited from Beijing, Dakkar, Brittany and now Douala (Cameroon)!

This weekend, as part of les journées du patrimoine, we visited an extraordinary little church in the mountains. Notre Dame des Fontaines is a 12th century chapel completely covered in 15th century frescoes. It's known locally as the Sistine Chapel of the Alpes-Maritimes. The detail in the paintings was incredible.

This weekend it's les journées du patrimoine européens - European Heritage Days, with loads of interesting places open to the public, in the area (and all over France, and I guess Europe!)

Every year on a weekend around mid September France holds les Journées du Patrimoine. This is the French version of the European Heritage Days

Feeling blessed to get such lovely guests at Lou Messugo. Some even bring or leave gifts for us which I always find very touching. Here's a selection of some from the last couple of years: shortbread from Scotland, honey from NZ, Californian poppies from California, several bottles of German w**e, flowers, a scarf (silkscreened by the guest), shopping bag from Arizona, soap, a sketch by a guest (we've had quite a few!), Swiss chocolates and Australian snacks! How lucky are we?
