Happy New Year to all our previous clients, friends and family.
Just to let you know that the gîte closed at the end of May 2025, as we have moved to Brittany.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us to create wonderful memories at Le Haut Champ, and we wish you many more holidays in France.

Beautiful red squirrel visited our gîte guests front door this morning.

A few photos of our woodland garden. This area at the back of Le Haut Champ was largely brambles and unloved until 2021. Over the past three years, with a mix of plants and wildflowers, it is gradually being transformed. The blue coloured bugles are flowering now, the bees love them. It's a bit hazy today, but still some nice photos.

A young owl enjoying the sunshine on our roof 🦉.

It rained heavily the day before - and the following day he sat there for several hours before flying off at dusk.

Apparently the owl's soft fleathery plums do not like the wet weather! Hence the sunbathing....

We are fortunate in having an owl nest attached to Le Haut Champ Gite, so owls are regular visitors. Mostly we hear them at night - so this sighting was a real treat.

Even though we have lived in France for many years, we are surprised often with the many new places we find to discover - all within 1 hour's drive of Le Haut Champ. Recently we spent a lovely day exploring Combourg in the Ile-et-Vilaine. The photo is a view of the château, which you can visit for a guided tour; and enjoy walking in the park surrounds.

This year's more temperate weather here on the Normandy/Brittany borders has been great for our Damson plum tree!

We harvested around 5.5kg last week and Anne has preserved much of the delicious fruit for jam and compotes. We also had a pretty good year for chillies too - we use most of the red chillies for sweet chilli sauce.

Amazing display lasting 30 minutes in celebration of the Fête Nationale (today). Proud of our town of 5,000 people to put on such a fantastic show. We enjoyed all the Beatles songs too which they played as the fireworks whizzed and banged - I could be heard singing along to Yesterday so won't broadcast that one!

The spectacular finale to the fireworks display at Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët last night. Amazing - all of the fireworks were accompanied by music from the Beatles.

Le final spectaculaire du feu d'artifice à Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët hier soir. Incroyable - tous les feux d'artifice étaient accompagnés de la musique des Beatles.
