For the last 3 days we have had the Pleasure of a retired couple from Florida staying with us as they had also booked an Allied Victory Tour with Mike van den Dobbelsteen.
Little did we know after leaving feedback in the 29th memorial book that Dave was a retired Lt Colonel.
We wish them both a safe travel back home.

Last week we had the pleasure of having our dear friends stay with us,It has been a long time coming for it to happen due to covid restrictions and their work commitments but pleased to say they managed to visit us. Their visit was also great timing for our new 29th memorial garden remembrance wall to be unveiled as it was also dedicated to kate's grandfather Cpl Robert A. Branin, 29th ID, 115th Regiment, Cannon Co.,
and his loving wife Elizabeth “Betty” Pell Branin Cannon. One of the fallen soldiers Howard Luther was also from Cannon company who is remembered at our 29th memorial, So this was quite fitting for Kate and her husband Gerard to unveil our new 115th wall of remembrance.
Their visit also gave them the chance to spend time with our many cats,of which Kate has a love of, including giving them a tour of my Women of Valour WW2 museum. It has been an amazing time in their company. A surprise gift of money with gifts for our cats was secretly left in the guest room from them and i was overcome with emotion.. We are truly grateful for your donation towards the museum and 29th monument including towards our fur babies. Don't stay away too long next time!

This morning we say farewell to a lovely French family. The two son's live in Paris, one works in the The Museum of the Liberation of Paris. They loved being around our family of cats and insisted every morning of letting them out of their homes to give them affection.
They also enjoyed the Women of Valour WW2 Museum tour and visiting our 29th memorial. All were very much appreciative of how passionate we are in keeping the history going of the 29th fallen and the history to our area.
It was a pleasure to have them stay with us this weekend. Safe journey home.

This morning we say a very sad goodbye to the Anne, niece of the late Lt William McGowan, along with her husband Doug and family.
It has been a bitter sweet trip for them, to be able to finally have closure on Pilot Lt McGowan who was announced MIA 78 years ago on D-Day. His remains were identified in 2019 and he was laid to rest at the American Cemetery with a 21 gun salute and with fly past with two American jets. A final tribute to a true war hero.
The time spent with us after the funeral was amazing, it was lovely to see you relaxing and being able to move forward after the long journey of closure for William.
Lest we forget that he sacrificed his life for our freedom.

Today we have had the pleasure of two Americans, both whom were in the 29th Division. Bill Anderson & Colonel Kevin Dennehy. Kevin came by as he wanted to add our Vintage B&B including the 29th memorial to the Visitor's D-Day book for the 80th Anniversary edition. They were not aware of my women's museum and so of course were given a tour. Both felt overwhelmed by their experience of what they saw. We then gave them a tour of our B&B rooms and then to our 29th Division memorial and garden. They left us a pot of French jam, I gave them both a museum sweatshirt to give to their wives back home.

For the last few days we have had our dear American friend retired Colonel Bryan D stay with us,along with his Fiancee Amanda and another lovely couple Danielle & Tim. Both boys were attending the 2nd Armoured Division re-enactment for the D-Day events here in Normandy.
Mike and i have had an amazing catch up of how they were doing and of course giving them a tour of our 29th monument and the surrounding areas around our home into St Lo. My museum was also on their agenda to visit.
We look forward to your return back here with your family but for now have a safe back home across the pond.

Step back in time

Le Pont de la Pierre is a 1920s-40s furnished Bed & Breakfast, situated in St Clair sur l’Elle, Normandy, France.

Our house is a farmhouse that dates back to 1758, which was extended with outbuildings in the years following.

We have renovated the house in keeping with the style of the 1920-1940s era, which is our personal taste in design, furnishing and fashion. We also are heavily involved in the 1940s dance scene and WW2 re-enactments. We do not have wifi as we like to feel our home is an escape from the “rat race” and enjoy the peaceful countryside and surrounding areas but close enough to visit the many tourist attractions.

In 1944 a battle for the nearby bridge "Le Pont de la Pierre" took place. The US 29th Infantry Division attempted to cross it on the 12 June but failed, suffering many casualties. In memory of those who fell during these actions, we have erected a monument across the bridge opposite our house.
