A recap of the food we served last weekend.🌱

The garden announced a new season, and we couldn't agree more. Where attention goes, grows. The longer we are living here, the more we get to understand the rhythm and value of seasons and how to flow with them instead of trying to outsmart it.

I feel how my cooking evolves season after season, and how the garden and I are growing more and more intertwined. Last week it were aspagus, sorrel, leeks, spinach, herbs and endless green leaves and flowers in the colour of the rainbow in the main role, for breakfast and dinner.

Want to taste what love, passion and hours spend gardening taste like? Last spring & summer spots can be found on our website. We would love to have you here.

Some weeks feel full, busy but most of all alive 🤍
Easter around the table with guests.
Hands deep in the soil — planting, harvesting, tending,
a quiet “yes” to each other 💍
a little escape in between, just the two of us and 🐕🐾,
and then… a surprise lamb, arriving in its own perfect timing 🐑
We hope you had the time to step outside too and sniff spring that is now really everywhere.
And notice everything that is growing and blooming around you.
We’re stepping into a new week, a little tired, very grateful…
and ready to spend most of it outdoors again 🌿✨

We quietly got married this weekend 🤍
No big announcement, no big party (yet)
The 2 of us, a few of our closest family, and the mayor of our tiny village. And by the evening… we were back in the kitchen, cooking for a fully booked Easter weekend with our guests.
Life as it is here — a little wild and chaotic from time to time. 😅
Next year marks 10 years of Rêve
and since yesterday also a wedding to celebrate!
Off course Rêve and our local 'chateau' will play the main role in May 2027. 🏰

9 years ago we bought a small village forgotten and left behind as ruins.
Three houses, a glamping dome, camperspots, a garden that feeds us & the guests and housing for the animals later...
We finally come to this piece of land in front of the house.
The one I’ve been dreaming about for years.
A dream, a plan,
and simply our hands to bring it to life.
These images are a glimpse of what’s to come,
scroll to the end to see where we stand today — just at the very beginning.
And slowly, step by step,
this too will become a reality to pause, to breathe, to enjoy in the upcoming months.
We can do this, again. 🙌🏼💪🏼

It feels like everything is slowly coming back to life here.
The first sun on the beach, a simple team lunch with our feet in the sand, hands deep in the soil, seeds quietly doing their work.
The animals are waking up, the days stretching a little longer, and somewhere in between it all… the otter has returned, since we found his little paw and tail print in the sand.
The chickens are generous again, the garden is gently unfolding, and we’re simply moving along with it — a little more present.
Grateful for these days, for all that is growing and returning,
and for our guests — being part of it, and making Rêve possible🤍

About last night 🌚

Last night was bathed in the milky light of the full moon when, at one o’clock, a neighbour knocked on the door and I heard my name being called in the distance. Joeri is not home, he’s away for three days with his son.
Sleep-drunk and still a little shaken from this unexpected nightly visit, we walked together to the place where they had last been reported in the neighbourhood WhatsApp group.
Two pitch-black donkeys, bathing in the moonlight, standing calmly in the middle of the road about 1km from home.
As if they had been waiting for us.
Together we walked back along the path where the grass shimmered silver in the night.
The soft braying of the donkeys.
The landscape teeming with life.
I accepted their invitation to become part of this mesmerizing night.

A storm is simply a lot of wind, just as a flood is simply a lot of water. Not deliberately destructive. Perhaps with a plan, most likely without one.
Powerlessness creates the illusion that at another moment, you might have had power.
If you thought it couldn’t get worse: on February 12, 2026, storm Niels swept through and took the biggest and strongest poplars first. It split the ground open. Rocks that had long stopped counting years were torn in two.
Finally, it took the electricity. For over 60 hours, during a fully booked Valentines weekend 🫣.
Powerlessness is a false feeling. We didn’t lose anything. We never had power. Not yesterday, not in the days before.
We have always been at the mercy of forces we cannot tame. Not sometimes in a good mood, nor in a bad one.
A storm is nothing more than a lot of wind. And a flood, a lot of water. Things that simply are.
And that make you realise that everything you think you can bend to your will is, in fact, a house of cards.
On February 12, 2026, we felt storm Niels. We saw it too. Suddenly, we were living in a place full of waterfalls.
All access roads covered with mud and stones.
Everything that smelled even slightly of spring lost its last colour.
Once again, everything is brown, grey and black.
