The Chapelle Saint-Pierre at Villefranche-sur-Mer near Nice was decorated by Jean Cocteau in 1957 with extraordinary painted scenes from the life of Saint Peter and the life of the fishermen of Villefranche in a sinuous linear style that is one of the most completely personal and most unusual expressions of 20th-century religious art in France.

Entry to the chapel costs around 3 euros.

Those who visit and stand in the extraordinary interior entirely covered in Cocteau's sinuous drawings describe it as the most surprising and most emotionally direct art encounter available anywhere on the Cote d'Azur.
