A wander around Saintes this afternoon after a fulfilling! meal at the Table du Maroc.

Tonight we have broken our own record. We have 9 children under the age of 5 staying, with their parents!
The youngest being 6 weeks, having evacuated from his home due to the wild fires, then 8 months old twins and then the grown ups aged 2-5 !
Cause for a celebration or sleeping potion! :)

Night market in Pons this evening.
Malina's Jamaican chicken curry and rice washed down with a small local beer all while listening to Uno band who did a 2.5 hr stint without a break
A good evening spent with friends.

Yesterday we celebreted the 10th anniversary of welcoming our first guests to Les Gîtes du Vigneron et chambre d'hôte.
Thank you to all of our guests for making us never doubt the reason that we' " upped sticks " from the UK and relocated to 17800 .

Yesterday was our annual village meal celebrating both 14 July ( la fête nationale ) and 11 November ( Armistice Day ).
As always it was a great day with approximately 90 people attending.

Yesterday was our annual village meal celebrating both 14 July ( Fête nationale) and 11 November ( Armistice Day ).
Wreaths were placed in front of the war memorial and in the Jardin des Justes ( commemorating the two families who hide Jewish families from the Germans in WWII ). After the ceremony everyone processed back to the church for les apéros and a 4 course meal, attended by around 90 people. We left the party at 19:15.

They've done it again !
Each year Yves & Lucette ( our mayor and his wife ) and a group of volunteers create an amazing piece of street art referencing a topical subject.
This year it is the 80th anniversary of Le Petit Prince. Apparently LPP is the second most sold book in France, after the Bible.
The story is on two levels, one for children and the other for adults, with a number of life morals.
It was written by Antoine Marie Jean- Baptiste Roger Viscount de St-Exupéry known as Antoine St Ex. He had a really amazing life. He delivered post by plane to remote areas. He crashed and was feared lost high over the Andes during a storm but was taken in, cared for and finally found his way down the mountains. He was eventually lost in a crash somewhere in the Med, off Marseilles, in 1944.

May is full of bank holidays in France ( 4 in total ) so we are usually very busy as freinds and families " faire le pont " and go away for a long weekend.
We had a family of 18 staying for 3 nights last weekend. Today we have 21 staying for two nights to attend a wedding in an adjoining village and next weekend we have a group of 17 work colleagues staying for 4 nights.
June is for relaxing !

So the terrace around the pool is now clean, always surprises me how much dirt falls out of the sky over winter. The pool and pool cover are clean and the PAC is on. Just waiting for both the air and water temperatures to rise.
