A short drive from La Maison de Maitre you can find this lovely medieval village to visit with some wonderful ancient streets to meander around and some great restaurants for lunch too! 😎😊💛
Monflanquin in the Lot-et-Garonne is one of the finest surviving examples of a Plantagenet bastide town, founded in 1256 with its extraordinary grid plan, central covered market square, and complete circuit of original streets all perfectly preserved.
It has been described as the finest example of medieval urban planning in France. The bastide is freely walkable.
Those who spend a morning in Monflanquin examining the extraordinary completeness of the medieval grid plan and the extraordinary quality of the Gothic and Renaissance architecture within describe it as the most intellectually satisfying and most architecturally complete medieval new town experience available anywhere in Gascony.
