Having set out with a mission of tall plants at the back and small ones at the front in shades of white, I have to succumb to this somewhat jazzy firework display! After all, it is a cottage garden and the self seeded flowers are happy to take the stage!

Glorious Magnolia Soulangeana that we planted over 30 years ago now offers a shady hollow for our even older garden furniture. Sprinkled with confetti petals…romance is in the air this Spring!

Just two weeks prior to the arrival of daffodils, crocuses created a carpet of violet blue under the same linden tree and the c**k pheasant popped in to take a look! Photo taken by our friend and neighbour, who, whilst kindly feeding our animals, was in her words, “rewarded with this”! Thank you Angie!

Struck by the beauty of this misty, damp February morning on the way up to feed the hens and sheep. The iron gloriette - a gift to the garden- to celebrate 30 years here at our home in rural France, seems to have adapted quite naturally to its new surroundings.

Second flush of David Austin roses against backdrop of artisan made « persiennes » shutters. The rose was a gift and we lost the name … any ideas would be hugely appreciated.

Poached gently for several hours the yellow quinces in the previous photo are transformed magically into this wonderful warm colour - almost as difficult to define as the fragrance of this ancient fruit.
