The weather this week has been glorious. We’ve enjoyed the pool but we’ve also been busy updating the outdoor of the gîtes and gardens. Kath’s mum and dad have helped with some very needed fresh coats of paint and Mike has been stacking all our wood for next winter! We're gearing up for a warm week, with highs of 35°C ☀️ which makes our pool the perfect place to cool down! Now officially open for the 2026 season 🏊‍♀️

Craving a last minute half term getaway?

Today we had a trip out to Ruffec, a local town about fifteen minutes drive away from the gîtes. They have a vibrant market on a Saturday morning. 🛍️

As we drove the short journey we counted eight different crops growing in the fields plus a bonus number nine on the way home. 🌱 Can you spot the hop bines? Having come from Kent we were very used to seeing these across the county but this is the first time we’ve seen them in France.

We stopped by a local bar for a glass on the way home. Pool boy was allowed a shandy!! 🍻

Our guests often tell us how much they love the pool! Whether splashing around playing games together as a family, or sitting beside the pool with a book whilst the sun is shining. It's a highlight of their holiday!

And over the last few weeks, we've been working hard behind the scenes (and getting help from a local business) to replace the pool lining and have it looking great ready for the summer season.

Welcome to all our new followers this weekend. We are so glad you joined us. 😊

We are in the process of cutting hedges🌳 back before the March deadline and trimming and pruning ready for the gardens to burst into life this spring 🌼.

We were gifted this lovely bench so we’ve placed it in this spot where wild peas grow up around the frame. It should make a lovely quiet spot for enjoying the peaceful gardens and birdsong 🐦.

The cherry tree in the orchard is in bud and the plum trees are in full flower! We are very excited for the season ahead.

Nutmeg kitty decided to join us in the garden today!

We’ve trimmed back the wisteria and climbing rose from round Chez Hiboux as well as weeding. We’ve cut back the buddleia too and tried to neaten things up a bit.

Now it’s time for a cuppa 🫖 ☕️ 🍪😁

We are finally in the garden as the rain has paused. Did you know it has been the wettest February on record for France? So we are tidying up the garden and getting everything ship shaped for the season ahead. We hired a man with a cherry picker and chainsaw to cut down some of the branches which were touching the electricity wires and today we will be trimming buddleia and other shrubs. We have had some damage to fruit trees from the winds so we will be making things safe in the orchard. ‘After’ pics to follow later on ☺️

2025 wrapped, gîtes edition!
