Deux voyages. Deux versants de l’Himalaya. 🇮🇳 🇧🇹

We often look at someone else’s life and wonder if we should be living differently.

Their career. Their choices. Their success. Their path.

But the Bhagavad Gītā reminds us that another person’s path can never replace our own.

Sva-dharma asks us to look beyond comparison and understand what is truly ours to do, given our nature, responsibilities and circumstances.

The question is not,
“Am I doing this better than someone else?”

It is:

“Is this mine to do?”

Sometimes, walking your own path imperfectly is far more meaningful than perfectly living someone else’s.

Yoga is often reduced to stretching, flexibility, and physical exercise.

But traditionally, yoga points to something much deeper.

It is a practice of bringing the body, breath, mind, and awareness into greater harmony.

The postures are only one part of the path.

Yoga is not simply about how far you can stretch.
It is about how deeply you can become aware.

We often want someone to tell us what the right choice is.

But the Bhagavad Gītā offers something more demanding: learn, reflect, discern, and then choose.

Krishna gives Arjuna knowledge and guidance, but ultimately returns the responsibility to him.

We may not always have complete certainty. But we can examine our motives, understand our responsibilities, pause before reacting, and choose with awareness.

A teacher can illuminate the path.
Wisdom can guide us.
But we still have to walk it.

Perhaps knowing what to do begins with learning to think deeply before we act. 🤍

Thousands of years ago, Bharat was already asking questions that still sit at the heart of our lives today.

How do we act with integrity?
How do we find contentment?
How do we work with the mind?
How do we live a life that means something beyond ourselves?

Dharma. Karma Yoga. Santoṣa. Sākṣī Bhāva. Abhyāsa. Vairāgya. Sevā.

These are not simply ancient concepts to study. They are invitations to practice, reflect, and live differently.

Perhaps the wisdom is not in knowing more.

Perhaps it is in living what we already know. 🤍

We often imagine that spiritual practice begins with pure intentions.

But Dhruva’s story reminds us that it doesn’t always have to.

He went into the forest carrying hurt, anger, and a desire to prove his worth. He wanted recognition. He wanted something the world had refused to give him.

Yet through his practice, something changed.

When he finally encountered Viṣṇu, the desire that had brought him there no longer seemed important.

Perhaps that is one of the quiet mysteries of spiritual practice.

We may begin the journey wanting something from it.

And somewhere along the way, the journey changes what we want.

Sometimes the desire that brings us to the path is simply the doorway. 🤍

We often think of dharma as simply meaning religion.

But in the Indian philosophical tradition, the word carries a much deeper meaning.

Dharma (धर्म) is not simply about what you believe.

It is about how you live.

The responsibilities you carry.
The values you choose to uphold.
The way you respond to the moment in front of you.

The Bhagavad Gītā reminds us that our path is not always the easiest one, nor the one that gives us immediate happiness.

Sometimes dharma asks us to do what is difficult because it is right.

It invites us to move beyond the question, “What do I want?” and ask:

“What is my responsibility in this moment?”

Perhaps understanding dharma begins when we stop looking only for what feels good and start learning to live with clarity, integrity, and awareness.

The mind does not become quiet simply because we ask it to.

In the Yoga Sūtras, Patañjali offers a practical path through abhyāsa and vairāgya: sustained practice and non-attachment.

Abhyāsa is the practice of returning. Returning to the breath, to meditation, to awareness, again and again, even when the mind wanders.

Vairāgya is learning to loosen our grip. Not becoming indifferent, but releasing the constant need for things to happen exactly as we want them to.

One teaches us to keep showing up.
The other teaches us to let go.

Together, they create the conditions for a quieter, steadier mind.

Perhaps the practice is simply this: show up fully, then release the need to control the result. 🤍
