Marks 73 years since the single most significant event in carp-fishing history.
🎣 Back in 1952 at Redmire Pool (then known as Bernithan Pool), Richard Walker landed a 44lb carp named Clarissa, smashing the previous record to pieces.
But this was more than just pounds and ounces… it was fate. On that historic day, the stars aligned perfectly — and it’s no exaggeration to say this was the birth of modern carp fishing.
🐟 Clarissa’s capture reshaped everything. The idea that a carp could be caught deliberately was unheard of. Carp were seen as impossible quarry — too clever to hook, too powerful to land.
Yet Walker proved it could be done.
💭 Over seven decades on, our affection for Clarissa — and the story — is as strong as ever. It still fires our imagination like no other tale in angling history.
