When I was fourteen years old I fell in love with France and everything French. This rental property is my dream-come-true of coming back to this beautiful country...and sharing it with family, friends, and fellow France-lovers.

Vernet les Bains is a lovely, peaceful village in the foothills of the Pyrénnées mountains, along the border between France and Spain, and only an hour’s drive inward from the Mediterranean Sea. Microclimate with over 300 days of sunshine a year. Gorgeous nature, with species that shouldn’t exist there, but do, from all kinds of gorgeous fir trees, to exotically colored birds, palm trees and unique flowers, trees and shrubs. The small village alone boasts 1,500 trees with over 200 identified species. An Arboretum and park. A castle. A river. Air that is delicious to breathe. The Saint Martin du Canigou Abbey (Chapelle N.D del Puig, parts of which dates from 863), - a gorgeous walk through the woods. The ‘yellow train’ that offers an open car with a 360 degree view of the Pyrénnées over a 62.6 km (39 miles) trip at a maximum altitude of 1592 meters ((5,223 ft.). Visitors come for the hot springs thermal spa for respiratory and rheumatic conditions, the Canigou mountain chain and numerous trails and waterfalls for hikers; the town has two swimming pools, a casino and hotel from the 1900’s, a river, tennis courts ....

The house is situated in the “Village Catalan”, a gated community of 10 units built at an angle up the mountainside. Some are privately owned, some are for rent. They are all self-catering with kitchens, fridges, stoves and microwaves, and there is a market with everything you’d need three times a week, a five-minute walk from the houses. The Village walkways are shared by all owners/renters, - lovely stone walks and steps, beautiful shrubbery, and a community area with a large tented table and BBQ. The “Friendly Neighbors Corner” is a meetup for 4:00 tea or drinks and the people are indeed friendly and neighborly – a place to meet and make new friends. Vernet les Bains has an aquatic center with two large pools, a river, tennis courts, a beautiful hotel (1883) and a casino dating from the “Belle Epoque”. A local bus and train take you in either direction for 1 euro, and there are lots of lovely touristic sites and towns in the surrounding area. Click on the photo albums to see more.

Chêne Vert has two bedrooms with XL twin beds that can be made up to one King size, and a comfy living room couch that could sleep one more. The house has been newly renovated: a large open space spreading out from the kitchen area into a living / dining room with French doors leading to a small terrace. Beautiful views from anywhere. There is 4G mobile network, a French TV, and a comfy fireplace corner. High season is July / August; low season is May / June and September / October, but the house has radiators and with the wood burning fireplace with insert, is livable even in colder months.
