Spectacular September has been stretching our summer season with sublime sunsets, stunning sunrises and superb guests. We’re still breakfasting on the pool terrace, riverside picnicing,BBQing, sunset suppering and more. Our evening menu has shifted into autumn mode as the seasonal produce changes but we’ve still got one foot firmly stuck in summertime mode. Early morning tea trays delivered to our guests in their rooms has been on repeat, pre breakfast dips in the pool, river swimming, countryside cycling, cognac tasting, star gazing….the list goes on. The excitement for this weekends Circuit Des Remparts is building …..we can’t wait! Oh noooooooo……or maybe it’s your lucky day? Sadly the last 24 hours has seen 2 lovely rooms cancelled for this years Circuit Des Remparts (yes in a couple of weeks time!). So we can offer this amazing weekend out to any car enthusiast/petrol head/admirer of vintage cars/foodie and w**e lover or perhaps you just want to escape for a few days and enjoy a bit of car racing for the first time!? Bienvenue Septembre! Wow August has flown by nearly as fast as our poolside nesting swallows have grown and flown! Our last family group departed this morning heading back to the UK in time for a new school year. We feel a shift in our pattern of guests but our beautiful summer sunshine continues. A courtyard full of lovely cars over the last few weeks has meant a bit of improvisation on the overnight garaging front! Our entrance tower has been repurposed to form the perfect protected place. August has seen lots of delicious food being produced from the Le Palais kitchen. Sunset suppers, perfect picnics, bountiful bbqs, endless children’s high teas and much more. As we speed into September our sights are set on our favourite event of the year….the Circuit des Remparts in Angouleme. Excitement grew this morning when our friend’s new racing boots were delivered to our door for safekeeping! Eeek! Our 2027 diary is well and truly open and we are thrilled that many weeks are already fully booked. Wow what a weekend….a weekend of a fabulous group of guests who return year after year to remind us that Le Palais is the perfect place to celebrate family, friendship and good times. A weekend of hilarious laughter, canoeing, picnicing, river swims, pool games, many gin and tonics, seafood sunset suppers and much more. Jasmine and I often wonder what life would have been like if we hadn’t taken the plunge and moved across the Channel but weekends like this one remind us that we made the right decision. Is it the 14th July already! Wowzers this sizzling Summer is slipping bye at lightning speed! Today we celebrate France and all the things we love about living here. We also toast the arrival of our 10 year Visas after a nervous few weeks waiting for the green light, we now finally have our Residency Permits in black and white! Bastille Day is a national holiday in France commemorating the anniversary of the fall of the Bastille prison on July 14, 1789, marking the beginning of the French Revolution and the national uprising but maybe also a time to reflect on where we live and the things we love. Old 2CV’s, homemade croque monsieur, the village boulangerie croissants, fantastic nights of mussels and frites cooked by wonderful village volunteers shared with our guests and the ultimate indulgence of delicious vintage French w**e. Vive la France! It’s always a proud moment to share our French life with our guests and long may it continue. C’est toujours un moment de fierté que de partager notre vie à la française avec nos invités, et pourvu que cela dure! À bientôt, les amis. 🇫🇷 😋 **e

Désolé for the radio silence! The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of guests coming and going, beautiful weather, trips to l'Abrégement Parc to stare in awe at the Goldworthy and Gormley sculptures, delicious seasonal food from the Le Palais kitchen, Eleanor Jessica special suppers and the first sets of guests in our newest room………the ‘Pool Suite’! Our new favourite bedroom is finally finished and we couldn’t be happier with the result after a long winter of renovations. Our barn has taken a back seat but we are relieved that we finally have our custom made staircase to climb up to bed rather than the dodgy ladder and windows to keep the wildlife out! Unfortunately this week we have had an unforeseen and unavoidable cancellation in early July. So if you fancy a trip to come and stay with us you may be in luck. We can offer a shared transfer to Le Palais on some flight times into Limoges. Ryanair_European_Airline are offering return flights from Bristol, East Midlands and Stansted for under £50.00! So if you’re free between Thursday 02 July and Thursday 09 July we’d love to welcome you to our home for some R and R! This half term week has seen the Charente leapfrog from cool late Spring into hot summer scorching sunshine. Our guests have cooled off by enjoying hours of pool time, river swimming, canoeing on the Charente, picnicing and making the most of lots of precious family time. The kitchen has been busy cooking up plentiful petit déjeuners, reviving seasonal salad lunches and sumptuous sunset suppers. We finished a wonderful week off with a fabulous bbq feast last night as we watched the sun slowly dip behind the village chateau. The feline has adapted to the change in weather by spending his week sauntering from one shady spot to the next. Will and our fab friend Jerome have started to assemble the barns metal staircase after the delivery of our laser cut treads (Merci ). Exciting! Very early morning duties have been worth it to catch a glimpse of our lièvre as they graze between the ancient oaks on the driveway. Au revoir marvelous May! Bon week-end à tous! 🇫🇷 ❤️

Wow what a week…..after very long days of getting jobs ticked off the never ending to do list we enjoyed our favourite (much needed) simple, shellfish supper last night washed down with a delicious glass of w**e. This week has (at long last) seen the barn advance in leaps and bounds after months of mess, dust and destruction. The first phase of the huge task of the traditional interior lime rendering is now complete and what a transformation it has made to the space. The heavy steel that will form the spine of our staircase has been lifted and fixed into place. And our wonderful friend has started fitting the bedroom mezzanine balustrade (An important safety feature due to Jasmine’s sleep walking habit)! It’s starting to look more habitable now and ready for us to move into for the summer months. The Pool Suite is inching towards completion with bed deliveries, curtains being hung and the finishing touches finally being put into place ready for its first guests next week. Eeek! We think it might be our new favourite guest room! Bon week-end à tous. 🇫🇷

This friday in France was our celebration of May Day, Fête du Travail and la Fête du Muguet (Lily of the Valley Day) all rolled into one. A day of rest (for most!) and the historic giving of Lily of the Valley flowers to loved ones and neighbours to give luck for the changing season. An age old tradition stemming back to Knight Louis de Girard who gave Charles IX the King of France a lily of the valley sprig he had picked in his garden on the 1st of May, 1561. For us here we had a wonderful weekend of guests enjoying warm May sunshine, sunset suppers, walking in the beautiful Charentaise countryside, lunchtime oysters and Pastis and Pétanque! Even the resident feline took May Day seriously as he was found horizontal on our new outdoor lounge cushions! Bon week-end à tous! 🇫🇷
