We have been welcoming guests since 2015 in our two lovely, side-by-side holiday cottages; nestled in the beautiful countryside in the sleepy hamlet of La Besse, Videix. Two wonderful quality gites or french holiday cottages, uniquely decorated and furnished with antiques and vintage pieces in the heart of the Haute Vienne region of the Limousin / Nouvelle Aquitaine countryside. We are located jus

t 5 minutes from the nearest leisure lake, with warmer waters than the sea you can experience lake-swimming on a sandy beach, hire sail boats, windsurfers, paddle boards or canoes. In the summer months there is also the choice of 3 lakeside bistros, serving refreshing ices, cool drinks and light meals. Nestled within the Perigord-Limousin Park Natural, the countryside is on your doorstep ready to explore and ramble away to your hearts content. The perfect region for walking, running or cycling with quiet roads & pathways that meander through tiny hamlets and leafy woodland. Close to the Charente and Dordogne borders, you will find everything you need within 30 minutes of the door from towns, shops and markets, to chateau and churches; through adventure parks, horse riding, golf and of course fishing.

Lazy, sunny, Sunday afternoon : went swimming at the local lake, dozed in the sun for a while to dry off then, as we were having a refreshing aperitif at the little bistro restaurant Treiz’Or, Keith noticed people with takeout food boxes …
“do you fancy trying a takeout pizza, or do you want to cook tonight” … me, sarcastically “oh yes, I’d love to cook … 🤔🤪”
Takeout food ordered, just a 3min drive home, pizza happily devoured and now very content 🤗🍕

Just spent a beautiful evening with friends, we had a lovely Thai meal at Zen bistro … also bumped into our current gite...

I’m always posting about our beautiful barn owls, so today I thought I’d share some images of our beautiful “little owls” who also live in the hamlet … it’s not just because they’re small, that is their actual generic name 🦉🦉
Little owls are daylight birds, they can be seen (if you are lucky, judging you like this one) but defiantly heard screeching to each other throughout the day 💞🦉

Owlet update : mums definitely going to be busy … I count 5 owlets, and the size difference between the first hatched (middle left, by her head) and last hatched (bottom right, under her tail) is astounding.
Unfortunately it is unlikely all will survive, 5 is a very large brood for owls in the wild; nature will take its course - but we are lucky, dad is still around and is a regular food provider throughout the night (you can just see his legs top right) they may surprise us yet … 💞🦉💞🦉💞
