Aberdeenshire is a top spot for lighthouse fans. Rattray Head, shown here, is the most photogenic. There's Girdle Ness and North Pier lighthouses in Aberdeen, Buchan Ness to the north and Todhead to the south.

The excellent Aberdeen Maritime Museum has a permanent Rattray Head feature, and the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses is 75 minutes away in Fraserburgh.

Some pictish stones from Aberdeenshire, Moray and Angus.

1. The Eassie Stone - found in a stream in 1786 dates back to around 700AD.

2. The Maiden Stone - 3m tall, Inverurie, where ther are several examples)

3. The Craw Stane - Featuring a salmon and a pictish beast, Rhynie

4. Aberlemno Pictish Stone (one of several in the locale).

5. The Deil's Stane (Devil's Stone) Moray. People walking around it 3 times at midnight do so at their own risk.

6. Picardy Stone, Huntly.

It's easy to underestimate a sculpture's size. Enjoy these images of Poised by Andy Scott, which you'll find at Marischal Square, Aberdeen. Andy also created the famous Kelpies in Dundee and Mother Earth in Grandholm Gardens back in Aberdeen.
