We are introducing new pricing from 1st November 2026.

One night £18.00
Two nights £30.00
Additional Nights £12.00

The price includes, black and grey waste (drive over), general waste and recycling, water, CCTV (non-intrusive) and an event toilet (portaloo).

We have invested thousands of pounds into the site in recent months with measures including re-surfacing of the aire and waste compound, plus reestablishing the borehole, then trenching and plumbing 60m to bring water to where its needed.

We will continue to improve the site in the coming months. This will include completing the water and waste set up, providing a standing tap as well as a hose tap, plus separate running water for cassette rinsing. We also plan to introduce optional EHUs and Wifi.

When we introduce EHU, it will be an optional extra available via a QR code and will be metered. Wifi will be free.

Does this make us a campsite? Or are we simply a great aire?

Article on the tourism tax from the courier.

In the article, the council try to blame the tourism industry for this economically illiterate plan. They say we have demanded investment. We never asked for our industry to be attacked.

The slap in the face for us, is that the tax, that they expect us to collect is planned to fund council motorhome facilities. If these facilities ever materialise, they will take years and costs tens of thousands to set up, and likely be nowhere near towns like Aberfeldy.

It’s not just accommodation providers, who will be hit, it’s businesses that rely on tourism. This tax and the inevitable reduction in visits will cause hundreds of job losses and close tourism reliant businesses. That means our friends, family and neighbours will be out of a job.

Aberfeldy Aire owner Oliver Romain says his won't be the only business to close if Perth and Kinross Council presses ahead with its visitor levy plans.

I have been looking at providing power to our pitches by extending our power cabling to the Aire. At 120 metres it’s no small job.

One of the reasons this is attractive, is the close proximity of the BT Openreach Pole to the Aire. This would enable us to bring broadband speed internet to our whole site. We could also offer WiFi to guests.

On investigating further it seems that we may be able to obtain a Full Fibre connection and reach speeds of upto 1600mbps. The pole (pictured) seems to have the correct adaptations.

This could be made available to guests and other customers.

The broadband checker says that it’s not available, however, given the BT pole and access hatches are on our land, I would hope that can be overcome.

I don’t care if we get called a campsite. We will continue with our plans to improve our facilities and provide excellent service, at a great price, to our valued guests.

I prefer to be known as an excellent Aire than a mediocre campsite.

EHU and Aire ethos? The show must go on!

We are an Aire and offer a basic park up with full waste drop and water.

It’s taken significant investment to get to where we are and now we have water we are seeing a large uptick in guest stays. In the month since we made drinking water available, we have had more guest stays than the whole of the summer months combined.

What this says to me is that guests are seeking out sites that offer more. If we offer EHU it will likely increase our occupancy levels and appeal. The more appeal we have, the more stays and more revenue.

As a business, we have to focus on revenue and profitability. The argument about what an Aire should or shouldn’t offer is not a key consideration. To survive and prosper we have to be the best that we can be. We must compete.

With that in mind, it is likely that we will be introducing EHU in the coming weeks.

During our EV charger installation we buried 100m of conduit to provide a route for cable between our mains distribution and the park-up area. This means that we can install cable along this length with relative ease and add a distribution pillar and campavolt pay-go EHU posts.

Once we have set this up it is likely that we will increase pricing to £20 a night, with waste and water included. We believe that this still offers excellent value and is a very fair price for a fully serviced basic pitch.

Another bonus is that we have a main BT pole adjacent to the Aire. Once we have power and a distribution pillar, we will be able to obtain a broadband connection and offer free guest WiFi. The internet is also needed for the EV chargers, security cameras and shop, so it makes sense to move away from 4g WiFi to broadband.

I know that some will choose to stay away and I will be sorry to lose them as potential guests, however, we must leave ethos behind and be the best that we can be.

If you want more great value sites this is the way to go, let sites develop and let the market decide.

And if you are wondering, no, this is not the exciting country first secret that I talked about the other day. The best is yet to come.

That’s the new surface almost complete. It make a big difference in terms of comfort.

Hopefully, the 20mm chips will stay bonded on the surface. A few larger stones are present, however, they sit level with the gravel.

The next development here is likely to be EHUs but at a cost of over £3,500, it may have to wait.

Today, I have been spreading ten tonnes of 20mm grey chip gravel on the Aire using a micro digger and hand rake. Managed to get it evenly spread before dusk and able to accommodate four vans who had been waiting patiently for me to finish.

Tomorrow, I will use a roller to bind the surface. Hopefully, this will last a few years and the finer stone grade will be kinder to tyres, feet and paws.
