You might know Castaway, but you might not know the story behind it.

This little corner of the countryside has been part of my life since I was a child, growing up here on the family farm in the 80s and 90s.

Life took me on a few unexpected detours, from studying Zoology at Newcastle University, to working for a bank in London, then to Hay-on-Wye where Steve and I made a home and welcomed our two boys, Finn and Alfie.

Eventually, life brought me right back to where it all began.

Returning to the farm and creating Castaway felt like coming home in every sense of the word.

What started as a dream to share this beautiful place has become somewhere people can switch off, slow down and reconnect with nature, and themselves.

Whether you’ve been following for years or you’ve only just found us, I’m so glad you’re here. 🩷

Last weekend the annual charity fundraiser for the Longtown Mountain Rescue was held here at Court Farm & Llanthony Priory.

The ever-popular Big Black Mountain Challenge saw walkers and runners take on 20km, 31km, and 49km routes through the glorious Black Mountains.

The team was originally formed in 1965 to help people in difficulty within the mountains. Still today, it is run entirely by volunteers who rely heavily on fundraising support to keep going.

Rain or shine, the BBMC is always a brilliant atmosphere and an inspiring day to be part of.

And I have no doubt Castaway provided a cosy and well-earned rest afterwards for a few tired legs.

A huge well done to everybody who took part.

We hope lots of funds were raised for this incredible local charity and the vital work they do.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back again next year.
