Permanently closed.

After almost 17 years of trade, Terry is finally hanging up her apron and closing the Abbey Guest House with effect from 30th September 2021. She will greatly miss the numerous guests that have become her extended family and, in some cases, stayed so frequently or for so long that it seemed that they were almost part of the furniture ☺!!!

During this time Terry has won a number of awards – as well as receiving accolades from the numerous guests that have enjoyed her hospitality – and she would like to thank everyone that has supported her in that regard.

Last, but by no means least, Terry would like to thank her loyal staff that have upheld her ethos and ensured that the B&B was always scrupulously clean and welcoming.

The ethos at Abbey Guest House has always been to provide accommodation for as many guests as can reasonably be accommodated.

One of the options available is a ceiling hoist which is installed in the ground floor twin 'accessible’ room. This allows our guests to be easily transferred from a wheelchair to the profiling bed and can also be used to access the roll-in wet-room.

Oxford has numerous major tourist attractions, many belonging to the university and colleges. The town centre is home to Carfax Tower and the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, both of which offer views over the spires of the city.

There is the historic Covered Market and punting on the Thames to also enjoy as well as the ever changing and expanding shops within the centre (including the newly constructed Westgate Centre). Oxford is home to Blackwell Bookshop which is always a popular visit and claims to house the largest single room devoted to book sales in the WHOLE of Europe, the cavernous Norrington Room of 10,000 sq. ft.

Top 10 attractions in Oxford (as established by TripAdvisor):
1. Museum of Natural History
2. Pitt Rivers Museum

“Here at Abbey Guest House, we recognise that people are all different and we all face barriers of some sort and extent in our everyday lives. Some of us may require access for our wheelchair; others have issues with diet or perhaps hearing, sight or cognitive issues. We all require dignity and respect, including of our beliefs.

We try and discover what commonplace barriers effect people generally and greatly value individual guests’ insights into their requirements before, during and after their stay with us. This way we can implement solutions for removing or lessening the slightly annoying to the impossible total barriers we can each face.”

Did you know that Abbey Guest House was originally built as a private home in the 1970’s? The house and guest house has had many modifications over the years to bring it to the standard we operate at today.

It has a car park frontage and rear garden lawn and patio. The rear garden is secure and allows under cover storage of cycles or mobility scooters with charging electric sockets alongside. The garden is visually isolated from public areas and fully overlooked from the Guest House.

Let’s hope the sun continues to shine in our beautifully landscaped garden this August…and beyond.

Just a couple of the reviews from some of our lovely customers…Thank-you!

Excellent B&B
Great amenities, especially if you need an accessible bathroom. Clean and tidy. Great breakfast. Terry was very helpful in organising transport additional to the excellent public transport at the front door. Great value for money. Would definitely recommend the Abbey Guest House.

Great base for a family group attending a wedding in Abingdon
We booked out all the rooms for 2 nights. They were all excellent and offered a variety of options for different family groups. All the rooms were spotless, the beds were comfortable and the showers were working well with large soft towels. The lovely owner made us feel very welcome. Many of our party had dietary restrictions and we were all catered for superbly. There was car parking for all our cars and we were able to charge an electric car overnight. Highly recommended.
