The Potions Room, Alnwick A magically themed and romantic getaway for two in the heart of historic Alnwick, Northumberland! The disc parking is 2 hours max from Mon-Sat 8am-6pm.

The Potions Room is a unique and comfortable holiday home for two with a private hot tub. In late 2019 we created a magical hideaway in the heart of historic Alnwick. Guests can immerse themselves in the magic of the wizarding world just 200m from Alnwick Castle, recognised as Hogwarts by legions of Harry Potter fans! The home is located right in the centre of Alnwick but hidden away in a quiet, s

ecure spot in the old Pharmacy building; most people don’t even know of our existence. This fun, themed home offers a memorable place to stay while being an ideal location to explore the beautiful coast and countryside of Northumberland. This is a spacious First Floor Flat, giving town centre accomodation but set behind the main street and overlooking its own garden, providing a very quiet and safe home for guests and pets. Accessed from the main street there is a stairway shared with two other flats leading to your own door. Inside you will find everything you need for any length getaway. The lounge and kitchen are welcoming and modern, with an open plan layout and dining area too. There is a Smart TV and DVD Player, comfortable sofa and fully stocked kitchen should you wish to cook. The artworks inside are a nod to the history and beauty of the local area. The jewel in the crown is undoubtedly the bedroom: featuring a unique, king sized, solid oak four poster bed featuring hand made full length curtains and surrounded by dozens of carefully chosen items and ornaments. This haven provides an escape from the everyday and a chance to let your imagination fly! There is a quiet shared garden area to sit out in and for pets to enjoy. The hot tub is in a private area in the garden accessed only by guests at The Potions Room. As standard we accept 2 large or 3 small dogs with no extra fees. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have other pets- so long as they are house trained and don't eat furniture or cables then most pets are allowed! There is no smoking anywhere in the building, but you are very welcome to use the garden�

The nearest parking is 20 metres away, but requires a parking disc (one is provided for you to borrow, more can be bought locally for £1). There is further long stay parking a couple of minutes walk away. All parking in town is free. The neighbours do have a friendly and curious labradoodle. If you see them in the corridor he will probably say hello! They live in the same building but there are no direct neighbours above you so the flat is very peaceful.

Throwing it back to earlier this year when Misha came to inspect all the hard work we’ve put into the garden at The Potions Room! Though, truth be told, he seemed much happier lounging inside the cozy apartment. 🛋️🌿

Not all heroes wear capes... some wear an undertaker's hat! 🎩

Last night, Matthew led a group on our Ghost Tour through the streets of Alnwick, and he did a fantastic job - though things took a dramatic turn just before our Fenkle Street stop.

At around 8:55, Matthew spotted a fire breaking out in one of the buildings. He immediately called it in (the fire service had been alerted just prior and was already en route) and quickly brought the tour to a safe conclusion.

We were sorry to cut the walk slightly short, but the safety of the living is always our top priority. Our guests told us, "Matthew was fantastic with all his knowledge and certainly a credit to your Company. Safety was definitely more important and we did say if we return to Alnwick we can do the tour again. It is definitely a ghost walk that we will never forget!"

When you walk with us, you know you are in safe hands. All our guides are sensible, responsible, and ready to adapt to any situation - as Matthew proved last night. We are incredibly proud of his quick thinking and calm leadership under pressure.

Thankfully, no one was hurt, though it is always sad to see damage to historic buildings in our beautiful town. A huge thank you goes to our brave firefighters and emergency services for their swift action in keeping Alnwick safe. 🚒❤️

Our upcoming tours will be avoiding Fenkle Street for the time being, but don't worry - we still have plenty of brilliant stories, history, and haunting tales to share!

You might have seen videos of a fire at a building on Fenkle Street in Alnwick last night. Fortunately The Potions Room, located just two doors away, is completely safe and undamaged, and we are incredibly grateful to the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service for their swift action to prevent the spread of fire along our beautiful historic street.

Please note that Fenkle Street remains closed to vehicles, although you can still access it on foot for a portion of its length. We hope that the building can be made safe again in the near future and please do keep visiting our wonderful neighbouring shops💛❤️

A huge thank you to our lovely guests who spent 5 nights with us in Alnwick! 🏰✨

​It sounds like they had an incredible, action-packed stay exploring the historic town and taking in the breathtaking Northumberland coastline! 🏖️

​Being right in the centre of Alnwick makes it so easy to get around—with plenty of parking, fantastic local cafés and restaurants right on your doorstep, and the famous Alnwick Castle within easy walking distance! Phew, what a week!

​Even though these guests didn't end up using the hot tub, having it ready and waiting is always the ultimate way to unwind after a full day of adventures. 🛁✨

Northumberland really has it all, doesn't it? As much as we love the vast coastline, taking a day to explore inland is just as magical! 🌾✨

​Here is a glimpse into our day out in the Ford & Etal Estate:

​🚂 The Heatherslaw Light Railway: We started at Heatherslaw’s working corn mill and hopped on the steam train to Etal. The ride along the river is so peaceful and relaxing—the perfect way to slow down and take in the countryside.

​🏰 Etal Village & Castle: Arriving in Etal feels like stepping into a postcard, complete with beautiful thatched-roof cottages, lovely local shops, and the impressive ruins of Etal Castle to explore right in the village.

​🐾 Ultra Dog-Friendly: Our four-legged companion was welcomed everywhere (except inside the working part of the mill)! We enjoyed having our lunch outside in the sunshine and taking our time wandering around.

​🥾 On the List for Next Time: Did you know you can also walk from Heatherslaw over to the village of Ford? We didn't manage it this time, but another day out is definitely on the cards! 📝

Happy summer holidays, everyone! Hope you’re all getting some sunshine ☀️

​It’s been non-stop at The Potions Room lately, so taking a breather in the new garden has been a absolute lifesaver. Hard to believe just a few months back we were busy shovelling gravel and getting the flower beds ready! It’s truly turned into the perfect hidden gem right in the centre of Alnwick. 🌸✨
