Well it has been quite a rollercoster last twelve months. We loved this house from the moment first saw it late in 2017. The house has been operating as a B&B for many years. Everything was going well with the purchase until an electrical inspection found the wiring was old and the place had to be totally re-wired to continue trading. One option would have been to walk away but we knew that the house,and Alnwick, had so much to offer we re- negotiated the purchase price and became the new owners in January 2018. The electricians, had to move most of the sockets and re-wire through walls and ceilings, floorboards were lifted and much mess and rubble created ! The electricians,plasterers and decorators were busy for three and a half months, all the furniture and possessions in the house had to go into storeage whilst we rented in Amble. Bills,bills and more bills followed- what had we let ourselves in for ? New water tanks,radiators, modern electrics were fitted followed by the new colour scheme, each bedroom individually painted in light colours. Then came the Beast from the East at the end of February/early March. Roads were closed due to heavy snow, no one could get here and work stopped for several days, even the removal lorry couldn’t deliver our furniture. The opening date had to be put back and after a lot of hard work and long days we were able to open for guests on 20th April 2018. Since then we have been busy welcoming guests into our lovely 1904 Edwardian house,complete with modern fixtures and fittings. We have met some wonderful people in the last year from all over the world and really enjoy meeting our guests and making them feel welcome and relaxed for their break in Alnwick. Come and discover this glorious area of Northumberland for yourself and you will be amazed what there is to see and do. We hope to meet you soon.
