We have had an exciting year with the arrival of our first grandchild, and a second is making an appearance in July. They have all been living with us on and off, and we all move house together up to Jedburgh next week, an hour north of Branton! So it's near enough for us to maintain the cottage, and visit our beloved Northumberland when we can.
Isla, our lab, turned 6 last week, and is going to miss her daily dips in the North sea, but we think she will come to love the beautiful Scottish Borders, more mud than sand at the moment!
We have cottage availability at Easter, and quite a bit of the summer too, with a discount if you book 2 weeks together. Our calendar shows all the dates we have free.

Spring has definitely sprung! Happy Valley, a few miles north of Branton is in full vibrant bloom, bluebells adorn the woods, gorse is ablaze, and comma and orange-tip butterflies are everywhere. We even saw an 18 inch long adder snake, basking by the lake at Branton, this picture was as close as we dared get!

We have a few weeks left available to book in the summer - one week in July and most of May and June, and some in September if you're looking to get away for some rest and relaxation. Forget airport stresses, drive into the Northumberland wilderness and connect with nature - you'll not regret it!

Branton's snowdrops are the most beautiful reminder that new life is emerging from the cold earth. We've seen hares racing across the fields, heron feeding in the lake and crowds of mallard and wigeon ducks making quite a racket, waddling about on the shore.
Has anyone listened to the wonderful 'Raising Hare' by Chloe Dalton on Radio 4? It's well worth a listen, 5 x 15 minutes of a lovely, uplifting true story of a baby orphaned hare, a leveret.

Isla has finally learned to jump stiles at the grand old age of five !
Here she is enthusiastically racing ahead to the stile at the foot of East Hill in Branton, to show off her Labrador Lollop.

We've had some snowy and frosty weekends in Branton, but it's not lasted long - so far! Autumnal but mild up in the Cheviots at the moment. This is up on the hill out of Brandon, a lovely walk northwards, across the River Breamish, straight from our front door. It takes you up and round, back via Ingram, stunning views in every direction.
There's live acoustic music and street food at The Plough Inn, Powburn this weekend, hopefully more of this to come!

Happy days, drinking our very own Lovely Nelly amber ale in the Plough at Powburn, walking back to Branton and our cosy fire for an evening with Isla and a game of cards. It's the simple things!

Lovely walk up Happy Valley around the top of the ridge and back to North Middleton last weekend. The bluebells aren't quite out, so we'll go back to see the display very soon, but the scenery is beautiful. We saw plenty of hares racing across the fields, primroses and birds of prey diving into the undergrowth to catch something for supper. This tarn was full of frogs having quite a party!
