💚BEST FAMILY WALKS in the Kingdom of Coast & Castles.💚
Here's our selection of some of the best ones:

🏰 The "Castles & Coast" Classics

Bamburgh Beach to the Village: This isn't just a walk; it’s a giant sandbox with a fortress attached. The dunes are massive (perfect for "dune jumping") and the walk is flat. Family favourite: The ice cream at the end (obviously). 🍦

Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle: A 1.3-mile (each way) grassy stroll that is completely traffic-free. It feels like a pilgrimage to a "haunted" ruin. The path is bouncy, the sheep are friendly, and the castle ruins are safe enough for kids to explore the lower sections.

Low Newton-by-the-Sea: A tiny, white-washed square that leads onto a sheltered bay. It’s the best spot for rock pooling at low tide. You can walk the easy loop to the bird hide to see if the kids can spot some "fancy ducks" (lapwings and snipes).

🪵 Enchanted Woods & Waterfalls
For the mini-explorers who love a "quest."

Hareshaw Linn (Bellingham): This is a 3-mile return trip through an ancient woodland "fairytale" glen. There are six bridges to cross—kids love counting them off as checkpoints. It ends at a stunning 30ft waterfall that feels like a secret.

Wallington (The River Walk): Part of the National Trust estate, this is a "best of both worlds" walk. You get easy, well-marked paths, stepping stones over the river, and the legendary "Dragon Woods" play area nearby if they still have energy to burn.

🛡️ Roman Life & High Ridges
Walking in the footsteps of soldiers.

Cawfields Quarry to Milecastle 42: This section of Hadrian’s Wall is great for families because it starts at a dramatic flooded quarry (great for a picnic). The walk along the wall here is steep in parts but short—it gives the kids a "I climbed a mountain" feeling without the 4-hour hike.

Simonside (The Family Loop): Located near Rothbury, there is a dedicated "Scots Pine" trail that is great for younger legs. For older kids, the climb to the crags involves hopping over rocks and looking for "trow" (local goblin) holes.

💡 Tips for Northumbria with Kids:
The Wind Factor: The North Sea doesn't play! Even in summer, a "hoodie and shorts" combo is the local uniform.

Tide Times: If you head to Holy Island (Lindisfarne), checking the Safe Crossing Times is the difference between a great day and a very wet car.

The "Puffin" Boat: If you're in Seahouses, the boat trips to the Farne Islands are a massive hit—it’s like an outdoor zoo but with seals and thousands of birds.
