The annual Summer Art Exhibition in our Parish Church is always something to look forward to. For visitors to Alston it is also a chance to purchase a unique piece of art at an affordable price to take home as a souvenir.
We still have some availability for this weekend ( see https://www.holidaycottagesalston.co.uk/availability-and-prices/ ) and if you arrive on Thursday or Friday this week you are welcome to the Preview Party with a chance to meet the artists and to enjoy some local music.

Summer is here which means one thing, no, not sun, it's Alston Art Group's Summer Art Exhibition!

Our Preview Party is on Friday 9th August from 6-8pm. There'll be wine, juice, music and nibbles, entry is free and everyone is welcome.

The exhibition will be open daily (except Sunday mornings) from 10th to 26th in St Augustine's Church, Alston. Entry is free.

Did you see the Northern Lights last weekend?
This was the view on Saturday night from our newly refurbished flat, taken by Aashika who now lives there. It’s next to our holiday cottages in The Butts behind St Augustine’s church and you get an equivalent view from Naworth which adjoins the flat. Just think, you could have seen this too if you had been there!

This is the last weekend of Alston Moor Heritage Festival.
There’s still time to see the Townscape Heritage Exhibition in St Augustine’s Church, on until Sunday 4.30pm.
(also interesting display of local history by Alston Moor Historical Society and information about Epiacum Roman Fort)
There are also 3 guided heritage walks –
On Saturday a Waterpower Walk starts 1.30pm from Fairhill Carpark (this walk also includes visit to High Mill waterwheel), and
Townscape Heritage Walk & Talk starts inside St Augustine's Church at 3.00 pm, explaining the work that was carried out on the properties within the scheme.
On Sunday there's a Town Trail walk starting at 1.30pm from the Market Cross (this walk also includes visit to High Mill waterwheel)
These events are also part of the national Heritage Open Days week.

Summer is here and we're set for some warm weather. When the weather gets too hot further south it is often perfect on Alston Moor. Come and see our summer wildflowers. Enjoy the wild open moorland in the morning or evening sun, and in the heat of the day, go for a riverside ramble and picnic on a grassy bank or under the shade of some trees.
