Glen Rothay and Badger Bar

Glen Rothay and Badger Bar Just how a quaint country pub should be, from wonky floors and walls, to an ever changing selection
(809)

This unique building is a country B&B on one side an a historic 400 year old inn on the other. Some of the finest walks in the Lake district start right on the doorstep, including the Fairfield horseshoe and Loughrigg terrace. Ambleside and Grasmere are close by with spectacular views all around. its not surprising that William Wordsworth chose to spend most of his life at Rydal Mount, a stones th

row away behind us on the fell-side. Stay and enjoy the local home cooked food, real ales and the open fires. Our staff are friendly and always willing to help which plays a big part in making the Glen Rothay really Unique, make sure to look at our guestbook, full of comments from guest who have returned again and again. And last but especially not least come watch the badgers being fed on the grounds every evening, where else can you get all that.

TIMBER!
A dead tree was leaning alarmingly over the road. Not any more! Thanks to regular guest Mick who spotted it this morning, and local tree surgeon Tamang, who dealt with it this afternoon. Now you can drive past in your open-top Ferrari (it is the weather for it) safe from falling trees.

It's going to be a wonderful sunny week in Rydal - Bertie has fished out his sunglasses and the beer garden is ready!

Inspired by his mountain-biking friend, Baldrick has been reading about Loughrigg.

Loughrigg is our local 'friendly' mountain, famed not just for its plethora of biking, running & walking trails, but also for its caves, its wildlife, its autumnal bracken & spring bluebells, its tarns & lakeshores, and its unsurpassed range of views over Rydal, Ambleside, Windermere, Grasmere, Little Langdale, Coniston, Elterwater, Dunmail Raise & the fells of the southern Lake District.

We are selling copies of this fantastic book, about this fantastic mountain, in the bar. Just ask for a copy next time you are passing.

And this morning, the view over to Loughrigg from above the Badger Bar was extraordinary. It was a glorious glimpse of summer, on this spring day, with the weather set to stay for a while.

Come and see us! If you don't know, we are on the left of the pictures, at the eastern edge of Rydal Water, perfectly placed to explore Loughrigg from its Rydal Water shoreline, with Loughrigg Terrace and the caves just a few minutes walk from our front door.

We are devasted to have to announce that our head chef, Lenny Kitavi, died in a road accident last Thursday.

Lenny brought joy and dedication in equal measure to the Badger Bar over his many years with us. His personality filled our kitchen and we are all in utter shock that we won't see him again.

We know that many hundreds of customers and guests have enjoyed Lenny's menu over the past years, not least his wonderful Sunday roasts. He leaves an enormous hole, and legacy. The team will continue to deliver the quality food and menus that Lenny taught them, and he will never be forgotten here at the Badger Bar.

Lenny was also a dedicated family man and words are not enough to explain their loss.
