Since the early 17th century we’ve been welcoming weary travellers and visitors to the village of Hawkshead. Whether you want to drink, dine or unwind, you will find The Queen’s Head the perfect base to explore the beautiful South Lakes of Cumbria and beyond. Our restaurant, awarded an AA rosette, has a menu to suit all tastes but, at its core, still serves humble pub food served with flair and only created using the freshest seasonal produce with help from local suppliers. We love the patter of paws and so we’re an extremely dog friendly pub. Our bar area and snug offer roaring fires that will lull even the most excited four-legged pal to a quick slumber so you can enjoy a relaxing pint at the end of a busy day. Whether it’s a light lunch or an evening meal, The Queen’s Head offers a warm welcome, good food and great drink. We have thirteen comfortable guest rooms all with private bathrooms and all individually styled and furnished. Free Wi-Fi is available for all our guests

Hawkshead’s Bonfire & Firework Display is on Saturday 7th November 🎆

- Bonfire lit at 6pm
- Fireworks at 7pm

There’ll be food and a bar on the night, and entry is by donation. Please note it’s strictly no sparklers and no dogs.

Looking for something warming this weekend? 🍂

Meet the newest addition to our autumn menu, our Butter Chicken.

Tender chicken simmered in a rich, creamy spiced sauce, served with fragrant rice, grilled flatbread, a poppadom and fresh kachumber salad. The perfect way to warm up after a day out on the fells.

One of the best things about staying in Hawkshead is how much is on your doorstep.

Within a few minutes’ walk of the Queen’s Head you’ll find the Beatrix Potter Gallery, the old Grammar School where William Wordsworth was a pupil, St Michael’s church with its views over the village, and the little square and lanes that make Hawkshead so photogenic.

Opening times change through the autumn, so check before you visit. We’ll be here either way, with the fire on.

Save this one for an October trip to Hawkshead 🍂

Whitewashed cottages, narrow cobbled lanes, the trees turning gold around the village, and a warm pub to finish the day in. October is one of the loveliest times to be here. The crowds have thinned, the air's got that crisp edge to it, and there's nothing better than coming in from a walk to a crackling atmosphere, a good pint and a proper dinner.
