Holly Howe Cottage. 1995 - 2025 - 30 years of welcoming guests.

We’ve begun the year as usual by having all the safety checks done, and taking a last look at the cottage while decorated for Christmas.

At last ,and almost in celebration, the holly bush planted in 1995 has graced the year with a respectable flush of berries.

We wish all visitors and guests a safe and happy New Year.

Selfless and cheerful dedication.

Our first call out of 2023 come in the very early hours of New Years Day.

Keswick were tasked to someone having a panic attack after decending Scafell pike towards sty head stretcher box. When the team approached the area of the reported person no one was found. At this point Search Dog Isla spontaneously headed down hill into a gully and alerted her Handler Martin Bell that she had found someone ❤️🐾. The team followed and successfully evacuated the casualty from the hill.

A fantastic find by Isla in horrendous conditions.

More information on the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team page.

Happy New Year everyone.

Our latest mantanance trip to Holly Howe included the installation of a wood burning stove, admittedly with some help from scaffolders and a Hetas engineer. While the engineers were up on the roof installing the new flue liner and a new chimney pot they also capped off the redundant flues with smart terracota ventilated caps.
The snow fell almost as soon as the stove was first lit.
We also took the opportunity to paint the gable black again, in line with the other houses in the Gale and local convention.
All in all quite a trip!
