The Mill at Glynhir

The Mill at Glynhir The Mill is a family run bed and breakfast set in its own secluded landscape. It was originally a 17th Century Water Driven Corn Mill.

The Mill at Glynhir is situated in three acres at the foot of The Black Mountains bordering The Brecon Beacons National Park. Ruins which form part of a foundry that supposedly made swords for the French revolution can be found in the grounds. The Mill and the foundry were once part of the Glynhir Estate which was owned by the

Du Buissons who originated from France. The short approach to The Mill

is called bankyfelin (banc-y-felin) which translates to The Mill on the Hill and the word Glynhir (Glyn-Hir) translates to long valley. The Mill is a family run bed and breakfast set in its own secluded landscape, offering peace and tranquillity away from any main roads. It makes for an ideal base for sightseeing or activity holidays or just for a quiet break.

What a difference three weeks can make.

Still a few more leaves to come out along with the hydrangeas but long may the good weather last 🥳🥳

We do love a dreary day (not today, today was glorious sunshine all day ☀️☀️☀️😎) to make the fresh green leaves brighten up The Mill. We can’t wait for all the trees to get their leaves and surround The Mill in a sea of green 🌿🌱🥰🥰🥰

What’s the difference between Llamas vs Alpacas?

This is a common question we hear (and happy to answer).

Alpacas and Llamas are completely different animals.

Llamas have:
- long banana-shaped ears
- longer faces,
- weigh over 400 lbs,
- stand much taller than alpacas,
- tend to have coarse fleece,
- can carry a pack,
- are very protective of their herd/flock, and not afraid to defend them.

Alpacas have:
- shorter ears
- blunt faces,
- weigh an avg of 150 lbs,
- have luxuriously soft fleece,
- are gentle & timid,
and amble along like the world is made of gumdrops.

There is definitely an autumnal feeling here at The Mill

For those travelling further along the M4 this weekend.

Weekend warning for M4 drivers near Bristol

The M4 will be closed in both directions between Junction 18 (Bath) and Junction 19 (M32) from 7pm on Friday 24 October 2025 until 6am on Monday 27 October 2025.

The shutdown is needed so eight large steel beams can be lifted into place for the new A432 Badminton Road Bridge. Specialist cranes will install the beams in pairs over the weekend, marking a major project milestone.

A signed diversion will route traffic via the A46, A420, A4174 and the M32. Local roads around East Bristol are likely to be busy. If you must travel, follow the yellow diversion signs rather than your sat nav and allow extra time.

What to know
• Where: M4 between J18 and J19, both ways
• When: 7pm Fri 24 Oct to 6am Mon 27 Oct
• Why: lifting eight bridge beams into place for the A432 Badminton Road Bridge
• Diversion: A46 → A420 → A4174 → M32 (and reverse)

National Highways says the full closure is essential to keep crews and drivers safe during the lifts. Once complete, the new bridge will help reconnect drivers, businesses and nearby communities that have been split by the closure. This is expected to be the last full-weekend closure for the scheme.
