Nation cycle routes 68 and 71 also pass right through the town.

Step back in time and see incredible Roman artefacts uncovered on the A66. View thousands of years of local history as a free pop-up archaeology exhibition tours the county this autumn.

Oxford Cotswold Archaeology will showcase discoveries uncovered during the National Highways A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project at the following venues:

Appleby Public Hall - October 10 to October 11
Kirkby Thore Memorial Hall - October 24 to October 25
Penrith Rooms - October 30 to October 31.

The final is at Tullie in Carlisle from November 14 to November 15, where the artefacts will eventually be kept.

Two excuses to visit Brougham in September!!

Firstly, see the new Tudor Byre space transformed into a vibrant exhibition with artists from EVAN showing work for the Open Studio Trail. And second, while you're here, pick up a 'Make a Snowman / Snow Woman' kit for our community Christmas exhibition and fundraiser.

There are 47 artists taking part in the Open Studios this year and we are hosting some great artists at Brougham, with work by John Anderson, Thora Talling, Linda Stanton, Valerie Powell, Miriam Page, Helen Steer Art, Red Tarn Ceramics, Isabella Lepri Ceramics, Mark Hetherington, Interlude Ceramics.

The Snowmen kits are also flying out so get making - these little bags of fun contain everything you need to make your artistic contribution to the project. Last year we displayed hundreds of little snowy figures and we're really looking forward to how this year shapes up.
