Guests please be advised our road through Ardvasar will be closed during the day (9am - 4:30pm) on Wednesday 14th May, Thursday 15th and possibly Friday 16th for resurfacing works. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The road really needs doing!

An update from the Breedon Group Project Manager on the Ardvasar works planned to begin on Wednesday 14th May.

'Following a site visit on Tuesday we initially didn’t fully appreciate the scale of Street Furniture (Ironworks) within this section however have made some appropriate arrangements to speed up the process with additional Planer machines x 2 to help speed up our time on site.

The Duration our works will take us approximately 3 days to complete starting on Wednesday 14th May.

Wednesday – Profile Plane Existing Surface & around Ironwork with maybe some surface course.

Thursday & Friday – Surface Course

Our overall tonnage for this scheme is only around 230 Tonnes and in theory we will aim to complete all of this on the one day (Thursday) depending on how the amnesties work and residents help us achieve this.

Given School Runs and people need to get to work ect… our closure times will be at 9am Start – 4.30pm Finish. We may be on site before and after these times preparing and or rolling off however the road will be open.

We will always prioritise School buses and Emergency Vehicles through the works however starting that bit later hopefully means we only need to assist the School bus on return at the end of the school day including parents.

Alba Traffic Management will manage the Road Closure with 1 man at either end of the works & 1 in the middle to assist with Pedestrian Management.

Advance warning signs are currently being made in at Inverness and will be in place as of Monday 12th May in the morning stating – This Road will be Closed on Wed, Thurs & Friday between the hrs of 9am – 4.30pm, 2hr amnesties in place – stating the timings. ( I can send over the actual details once the signs are made today later on).

Ideally the best way to work amnesties here would be every 2hrs however as discussed with Alba and what will be discussed with my team will be whenever possible to open up to traffic, we will be sensible about it if someone says they are desperate to get through we will do our utmost to get them through the works, tourists will likely be told no & only at the amnesty times.

Appreciate 2hrs may seem a long time but this could be the make or break in completing the majority of the surfacing on the 1 day (End of play Thursday).

I will likely be onsite myself on Wednesday & Thursday next week to make sure the public are well informed and to assist the guys at the closure points.'

A future post will contain information about restricted access to Tormore Community Forest for a short time in the middle of next week to allow for temporary storage of materials. Recreational users are urged to avoid Tormore when further information is known.

Thank you.

We're often asked what it's like here in winter, is it really stormy, miserable and dark, whether we see the sun at all. Guests visiting during June and the 20 hours of daylight don't believe it when I say the sunrises south of Mallaig, cresting the hill at 9.30am in midwinter. So this year I've decided to take a photo the same view every morning through the whole year, regardless of whether we can see anything or not! You can follow these on Blipfoto, where the month of January is now done. There have been some gorgeous sunrises, like the one that welcomed in February today. Let's just say it's lucky it's not like last year, when we had one of the wettest Januarys on record, and some 80 days straight rain... that will probably be saved for July and August!

The run of good weather continues, although good weather on Imbolc is meant to signify that winter will continue for a long time, as the Cailleach...

Hello all! We're Good to Go and open again as of 1 August 2020! We have reduced down the number of rooms we have available at any one time, have introduced social distancing measures and strict hygiene protocols, to ensure that all guests are able to have a safe and enjoyable holiday here on the Isle of Skye. We can't wait to see everyone again - albeit at 2m distance!

Hi folks, just a wee update to say per Scottish Government guidelines we remain closed for the time being. Bed & Breakfasts and other accommodation providers will not be able to open up until at least Phase 3 of the Scottish Government phased recovery. We don't have any dates as yet, but it has been suggested that this won't be until August at the earliest. There are more details in the link below from Visit Scotland. Please be patient and stay safe - the Highlands and Islands aren't going anywhere!

Find information on each COVID-19 recovery phase in Scotland, including when you’ll be able to take a local trip or explore further.

To our future guests, it is with heavy heart that with the ongoing pandemic, we have now cancelled all remaining June bookings. Covid19 has sadly now reached Skye with devastating fatal consequences. The Scottish Government has sensibly extended full lockdown to the end of May, and it is highly unlikely that the tourism and hospitality industry will be allowed to open until July at the very earliest, and then will be subject to social distancing measures.

We will be reviewing whether we are allowed to open in July closer to that time. All June bookings have been contacted via email and no cancellation fees charged. We respectfully ask that you do not make alternative arrangements to travel to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, per Scottish Government advice, as we have a vulnerable, elderly rural community and very few healthcare resources stretched over a very large area. Furthermore if you are planning to travel to Scotland in the summer from overseas, it is expected that the UK government will be bringing in a 14-day quarantine period for all arrivals, making normal tourism impossible.

We hope wherever you are, you and your family stay safe and well. The Misty (and sometimes not so misty!) Isle will be waiting here patiently, as beautiful as ever, for when it is possible to return over the sea to Skye.
