This morning’s walk was around the peninsula from Druimindarroch to Borrodale Beach. Took the long way round and the short, easy way back.

Also, a wee reminder to use tick repellent when you go for a walk, check yourself and your clothes before getting back in the car, check yourself again at home and, if possible, get someone else to check the bits you can’t see well.

If you’re a return visitor and the weather is good, taking a different route up with the Corran ferry and a detour through the Ardnamurchan peninsula offers some great views and you avoid the traffic around Fort William and Glenfinnan.
We go right off the ferry and go round via Acharacle to Lochailort. It is winding single-track roads much of the way though.

Have you met our neighbours?

Let’s start with the cows. We have two neighbouring crofts with herds that come down to graze at different hours of the day. Sometimes they come at the same time and conduct a brief meeting at the corner. I imagine they’re catching up on the local farm gossip. Some of them have calves at the moment so they may also be comparing parenting notes.

Next we have the cockerel and his many wives. They like to pop in the garden to say hello sometimes. If you stayed with us recently and had fresh eggs in your welcome pack, those are the hens they came from.

Deer visit the area more and more frequently. It’s not that long ago that you’d have to go out on the hills to try and see them but now you may see them in the next field and occasionally even closer. This one was just in front of the garden.

Lastly, you might also see some cute spaniels and their bigger doggy friend from Litua next door.

And if you bring bird seed with you, you can watch lots of different birds coming to the garden too.

This is also why we always ask guests with dogs to read all the information we provide and look at the photos on the website to make sure The Sheiling is the right fit for their dog(s) and to protect our animal neighbours and visitors.

One of the most enjoyable parts of being a host is reading all your lovely messages. They always make us smile. 😀
