Birds and Wildlife of the Southern Lakes Day 5
More glorious sunshine enhanced our birding visits today. A second morning visit was made to Leighton Moss where several red deer were encountered whilst a walk around Arnside village after lunch provided good views of the Raven's nest on the foreshore.

More glorious sunshine accompanied our morning visit to Foulshaw Moss where two pairs of ospreys now reside.
We rounded off a full evening of bird photos and quizzes with a sing-along.

'Birds and Wildlife of South Lakeland' Day 2
Our group of 18 particiapants made the most of a gloriously sunny (albeit breezy) day to explore RSPB's Leighton Moss Bird Reserve.
We saw all the target birds including marsh barrier, avocets and black tailed godwits as well as hearing a bittern 'booming'. An impressive highlight at th end of the day was observing two spotted redshanks in breeding plumage.

'Birds and Wildlife of South Lakeland' Day 1
Following a light lunch at Parkside a gentle stroll along Low Barns Lane provided a low key introduction to the holiday. Sightings included wheat ear, little egret and pied wagtail as well as a colourful mix of woodland flowers.

Stuck indoors because of inclement weather. Certainly not, according to this group of intrepid guests who braved the elements as we explored Ullswater, Leighton Hall, Cartmel Priory as well as one of our favourite stops at Inn On The Lake, Glenridding. Dodging raindrops had become a speciality, aided no doubt by the informal Sunday Service led by Brenda Peerless. This small selection of photographs gives some indication of the enjoyable time had by all.

Birds, Butterflies & Orchids Holiday : Day 5 Haweswater
We travelled the short distance to Haweswater on our final day. Here we sighted some distinctive butterflies but gave pride of place to two colourful plants, Ragged Robin and Bird's Eye Primrose.
As the weather finally broke ,we rounded off a memorable holiday with coffee and cake at the Arnside Beach Hut.
We will be here again next year for the same week when we will once more search out the area's outstanding birds and butterflies with the addition of bees and dragonflies. Bookings are now open. Birds, Butterflies & Orchids Holiday : Day 4 Trowbarrow & Leighton Moss
Warm, sunny weather provided the perfect opportunity for the guests to explore Trowbarrow Quarry. We were able to add comma, small copper and northern brown argus to our growing butterfly list as well as green helleborine orchids.
An exciting afternoon at the Eric Morecambe Hide was headlined by the dramatic swoops of large predatory gulls on the avocets and black headed gulls. One pair of avocets heroically pulled out all the stops to protect their solitary chick from the attentions of all and sundry including a little egret.

Birds, Butterflies & Orchids Day 3 : Latterbarrow N.R.
Warm, sunny weather accompanied us on our morning visit to Latterbarrow Nature Reserve near Witherslack. The reserve was resplendant with a colourful array of meadow flowers.
As the morning advanced and the temperatures rose so the butterflies became more active. Highlights included close views of meadow browns, green veined whites and a brimstone butterfly.
