Unbelievably, it's 19 years ago today since we moved to Graig Wen.

We showed up with big dreams, a tiny budget, and an even tinier tool kit that fitted into a biscuit tin.

Somehow we're still here and still smiling!

Our wonder and gratitude that we get to live in this special place and do what we do remain as strong as ever.

And we couldn't do it without the huge commitment of our little team, friends old and new, family, good neighbours, local suppliers and of course the many lovely and loyal guests who choose to support our independent business.

So diolch yn fawr / thank you so much to all of you for helping make our dreams come true.

We're very proud that John won first prize in the dessert apples category of the Arthog village show this weekend.

The apple is a Welsh variety called Afal Siampên or Champagne Apple. The story of its name is unknown but
the original apple tree was given to a Mrs Huws (Bont Newydd) in the 1960’s by Lady Newborough.

We planted the orchard with a number of old Welsh varieties in 2012. It's lovely to see it producing excellent fruit, attracting bees and providing a nice place to camp.

Thanks for not scrumping them all campers!

Proper rain at last. For what feels like the first time in months, we had a daytime drenching yesterday.

In Dolgellau, gutters overflowed as shoppers took shelter to discuss the long awaited downpour.

I walked through the dripping forest at Coed y Brenin up to the waterfalls. Pistyll Cain drew an elegant white line over the rocks rather than the foaming force we're used to.

Mist drifted through the giant trees and it felt lush, green and vibrant.

Gwynedd has been in drought status since 23 July. Can anyone remember this long without rain in North Wales?

This tent pitch is available this week as some regulars have sadly had to cancel their holiday.

Precipice pitch has a view down the Mawddach estuary and it's our best pitch for watching sunset.

🚲 Our estuary field pitches are ideal for bike packers as they are so close to the Mawddach cycle trail /Route 8 and Traws Eryri route.

🏕️ Book online at our web site or drop us a message for on the day booking.

Cute alert! This cheeky bundle of fluff was found by campers on the tent fields and handed into reception this month.

We've seen a feral cat around over the winter that no one could get near so we guess that's where he's sprung from.

He's pretty bold and wild - vet thinks 4/5 weeks old. He's welcome to be Chief Mouser here if he wants to stick around.

We've made him a secure adventure playground for now. He's very happy to have visitors to his morning quarters near reception...

Book now and cuddle a kitten!

Eclipse viewing at Graig Wen, Arthog, 12 August 2026

It was such a joy to share the experience of watching the eclipse with our guests last night.

With delighted laughter and wonder, colanders, pin hole cameras made from cereal and pizza boxes and the odd pair of specs were shared around as we watched from the viewpoint on the top camp site.

Loved the "oh wow" moment as people looked through the specs!

The celestial show continued later with a spectacular night sky for the meteor shower.

Thanks to all of you who came along to make this evening so memorable.

Big thanks to crew who kept us fed from their wood fired oven trailer in the scorching temperatures.

I noticed this curious scrap of rainbow light yesterday evening on my dog walk along the estuary.

Turns out it's an optical atmospheric phenomenon called a Sun Dog.

Sun dogs appear when sunlight passes through a thin veil of ice crystal clouds (usually cirrus or cirrostratus), and the ice acts as a prism, refracting the light.

A sun dog is seen about 22° to the left or right of the Sun. They often come in pairs but I just saw one, with its reflection in the water.

Another magical evening on the Mawddach Estuary.
