The kitten found by campers on the tent fields back in August is growing into a feisty character. We called this Super Furry Animal Bunf. She's into everything and seems to be up to mischief 24/7.

She's has had her vaccinations and will be neutered before being released on the world. We think her mother was a feral cat and she definitely has a wildness to her. But she seems to like company so we hope she'll stick around.

Watch out mice and campers is all we can say....

Now's the time of year we start to take a bit of time out for adventures of our own.

Sarah's just back from spending a week with a friend hiking some of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in Spain.

Established in the 9th, the Camino became a major pilgrimage route of medieval christianity.

We chose to hike the Camino del Norte around 130k through the Basque Country from Donastia/San Sebastián to Bilbao.

What will I remember, apart from the pinxtos, local Txakoli w**e and extraordinary architecture ancient and modern?

The warm international cameraderie of others on the trail, the hospitality of hostels and honesty refreshment stops; feeling you're following in the footsteps of pilgrims on a spiritual journey from ancient times.

But most of all sharing my adventure with my friend.

This weekend, Mountain Rescue volunteers in North Wales issued an urgent plea for people to take personal responsibility for their safety in Eryri.

We had a great day out this week hiking up Cader Idris, which we've climbed many times.

We thought we'd share the prep behind that summit shot - and no, there wasn't a queue on Cader...

🗺️ Route research - we know there's 1000s of steps up the strenuous Minffordd Path to the summit. We looked up accounts of the steep circular route descending from Mynydd Moel. It would be a challenge but we were comfortable it was within our navigation and fitness capabilities with our dog.

🧭 Mapping - we downloaded the mapped route to fully charged phones. We carried a battery pack, paper OS map and compass which we have the skills to use

🌁 Weather - checked the Met Office forecast for the summit of Cader Idris the day before, the morning of our hike and during the day. We knew it would feel warm at first but -1 with up to 30mph wind gusts near the top. Rain and mist were forecast around lunchtime - and duly arrived!

🥾Kit - we wore hiking boots and took waterproofs and warm layers for us and the dog. Our gloves and hats were on before the summit. Walking poles helped steady our shaky legs on the very steep steps down! We had head torches, a first aid kit and group shelter - because anyone can hit problems.

⏱️ Timing - we started at 9am, reckoning on 6 - 7 hours on the mountain at our pace.

🥪 Food - we took snacks, sandwiches, 2 litres of water each and a flask of tea. We stopped often to refuel.

💡Decision-making - we wanted to cross the summit plateau and start our descent before the mist arrived to make navigation challenging. So early lunch was a speedy stop in a sheltered spot before the summit where got a quick photo before deciding to proceed.

📳 Shared our plans - we told a friend where we parked, our route and when we expected to be back. We made sure to message her with our summit snaps when we were safely back at the van by 3.30pm

This hike from the door of our camping, glamping and holiday cottages at Graig Wen has it all - from the shores of the Mawddach Estuary to mountain lakes, waterfalls and woodland.

🥾 Strenuos walk up many steps above waterfalls
🥪No facilities or refreshments in route so pack supplies
🐕 Ladder stiles about 4 1/2 miles in might be tricky for some with large dogs

Unbelievably, it's 19 years ago today since we moved to Graig Wen.

We showed up with big dreams, a tiny budget, and an even tinier tool kit that fitted into a biscuit tin.

Somehow we're still here and still smiling!

Our wonder and gratitude that we get to live in this special place and do what we do remain as strong as ever.

And we couldn't do it without the huge commitment of our little team, friends old and new, family, good neighbours, local suppliers and of course the many lovely and loyal guests who choose to support our independent business.

So diolch yn fawr / thank you so much to all of you for helping make our dreams come true.

We're very proud that John won first prize in the dessert apples category of the Arthog village show this weekend.

The apple is a Welsh variety called Afal Siampên or Ch*****ne Apple. The story of its name is unknown but
the original apple tree was given to a Mrs Huws (Bont Newydd) in the 1960’s by Lady Newborough.

We planted the orchard with a number of old Welsh varieties in 2012. It's lovely to see it producing excellent fruit, attracting bees and providing a nice place to camp.

Thanks for not scrumping them all campers!
