This morning, Sefton Place came to life. 💚

We were honoured to host the October meet of the Arundel Chamber of Commerce this morning.

After months of planning, building, problem solving and putting everything into bringing Sefton Place together, there was something pretty special about seeing the house finally full of people, conversation and energy.

And even better was being able to share it with the brilliant Arundel business community.

Since arriving in Arundel we have been given such a warm welcome, and we have been dying to open the doors and show everyone what we have been working on. So receiving such lovely feedback this morning genuinely meant a lot.

A little side bonus too… plenty more conversations were sparked for upcoming episodes of the Visit Arundel Podcast. 🎙️

There really are so many amazing people doing amazing things in an amazing place.

Caroline and I are notoriously bad at stopping to celebrate anything.

There is always something else to do, another challenge to tackle, another problem to solve.

But tonight, we actually took a few hours out to take stock of what has been a fairly ridiculous rollercoaster of a week. We are finishing Sefton Place, we have sold the house where we raised our family, and we have bought the house that will be a huge part of our next chapter.

That felt like it deserved dinner.

So many people have told us that we absolutely had to try Andalucia - Tapas & W**e Bar in Ferring, and tonight we finally made it.

What a brilliant little place. You walk into what looks like a tiny bar or cafe, then suddenly you are led through into this buzzing, cosy little slice of Spain.

And not one dish missed a beat.

Salt cod croquettes, lamb skewers, crispy aubergine, deep fried Manchego… everything was superb. The service was equally good too. Friendly, attentive and relaxed without ever being overbearing.

We loved it.

So much so that we booked again before we left, this time to come back with the family in a couple of weeks.

Just 15 minutes from Arundel, it is another reminder of how lucky we are to be living in this little corner of West Sussex. There is such an incredible mix of independent restaurants, pubs, cafes and food businesses on our doorstep.

A very good few hours out, and probably a reminder that we should do this sort of thing a little more often.

When all the big life moments that would normally be spread across a decade somehow decide to happen in the same seven days… 😅

We are still feeling slightly shell shocked, but also incredibly excited about what comes next.

Finishing a hotel. Selling a house. Buying a house. All within a matter of days… and at points, literally hours.

We recorded this little reel partly because we needed to document just how ridiculous this week has been 😂

And somewhere in amongst all of that, we also launched the very first episode of the Visit Arundel Podcast 🎙️

There were a few elements of the Sefton Place vision that were there from day one. Things we knew would help define the look and feel of the building, and that we simply were not prepared to compromise on.

The herringbone floors were one of them.

Now that the rooms are finally coming together, we are absolutely delighted with how they have turned out.

A huge shout out to Heybrooks flooring , who did a phenomenal job laying every individual herringbone strip throughout our 10,000 sq ft Victorian building. It was a huge undertaking, with an incredible amount of detail involved, and the finished result is exactly what we had hoped for.

They bring so much warmth and character to the rooms and have become one of our favourite features of Sefton Place.

The wait is finally over… Sefton Place is now taking bookings. 🌿

We are working hard behind the scenes to connect all of our online booking systems, and very soon you will be able to check live availability and book instantly across a range of platforms.

For now, our rooms and suites are available to book directly with us from 1 October onwards.

And watch this space… we may also be releasing a limited number of earlier, last-minute dates very soon.

While we finish hooking everything up, simply contact us directly and we will happily talk you through availability, pricing and the different rooms and suites, as well as send over photographs and any other information you need to find the right stay.

We are already receiving plenty of interest, particularly around key dates, so if you have been thinking about coming to stay, now is a very good time to get your dates secured.

Another little before and after reveal from Sefton Place… but this one is really about giving credit where credit is due. ❤️

Turning a beautiful empty building into a hotel is one thing. Turning it into somewhere that feels considered, welcoming and completely ready for guests is something else entirely.

That is where Abbie and the brilliant team at Changing Spaces - Interior Design come in.

They have been working on Sefton Place almost as long as we have, developing the interior concepts and taking care of everything from furniture and soft furnishings to artwork, accessories, kitchen equipment and even filling the cutlery drawers.

They somehow arrive at what is essentially an empty hotel and, within a handful of days, transform it into a fully functioning hospitality business.

And once again, they have done an absolutely fabulous job.

The design has always been a very collaborative process. Caroline and I have been involved every step of the way, working with Abbie and the team to choose pieces, refine ideas and make sure everything stays connected to the vision we had for Sefton Place from the beginning.

One of the biggest influences has been the landscape around us.

The earthy, muted colours, natural textures and materials are deliberately rooted in the South Downs and the countryside surrounding the house. In particular, the reeds you pass as you walk along the River Arun towards Arundel became a recurring source of inspiration and helped shape the look and feel throughout the building.

We wanted Sefton Place to feel connected to where it is rather than like an interior that could have been dropped into any hotel, anywhere.

Projects like this are never created by two people alone. They are the product of an enormous number of talented people bringing their expertise, ideas and energy together.

Abbie and the Changing Spaces team have been a huge part of that journey.

By popular demand… here they are. 👀

The first little sneak preview of the finished Sefton Place.

Lots of you asked for some proper before and afters after my last post, so it felt only right to start with the space that probably means the most to us.

For much of the second half of 2025, this was basically our home.

A mattress on the floor doubled up as our sofa. We shared the space with Basil, a few mice, the occasional grasshopper, and more dust than I care to remember. 😂

This was where we lived while we planned, designed, stripped back, rebuilt and tried to imagine what Sefton Place might eventually become, before finally decamping to the caravan.

So of all the before and afters, this one probably feels like the biggest transformation to us.

These are only quick record shots taken on my iPhone, so there is plenty more to come over the next few days as we start revealing the finished spaces properly.

It looks like we have finally done it. ❤️

The last three days have been an absolute whirlwind.

We have been putting in 15-hour days, surviving on very little sleep, and damn near killing ourselves to get Sefton Place ready to open its doors and show people what we have spent so long creating.

Quite honestly, we are still trying to process it all.

It has been exhausting. Emotional. At times completely overwhelming. But the love and support we have felt has been extraordinary.

From our neighbours and local community to the fabulous Arundel and wider Sussex business community, we have been completely blown away.

A huge thank you to Experience Sussex , Sussex By The Sea Visit Arundel and Victoria Emerson for their support throughout this journey, and for helping us pull together such a brilliant launch event. The room was full of energy and exciting conversations about future collaborations and partnerships. Exactly what we hoped Sefton Place could help create.

Thank you also to Carina The Blooming Truck for the beautiful flowers, Juniper for the fabulous canapés, Digby Fine English for the w**e, and The Caterers Worthing for the wonderful buffet.

Tonight, after three days of launch events, we finished with something very special: a private celebration with our friends, family and investors. The people who have supported us, encouraged us and believed in this slightly crazy vision.

We still have plenty to do. There is snagging. Lots. There are jobs on the list and undoubtedly a few more sleepless nights.

But for the first time, we can stand outside this building and say that the transformation is (almost) complete.

We have reached the end of one incredible journey and the beginning of a completely new chapter.

Sefton Place is ready.

And we cannot wait to welcome our first guests.

Thank you to everyone who has sent messages, offered help, wished us luck or supported us along the way, especially over these last few frantic days.
