Gordon, a wonderful gentleman now 94, first stayed at Ilam Hall as a 16-year-old — and fondly remembers playing the grand piano and making his own bed (as all guests did back then!).

This week, he returned with his daughter Karen, and we were honoured to welcome him back. As we showed him around, he lit up pointing out the old layout and sharing memories from decades ago.

We offered him a few chores for old times’ sake — but he politely declined. We let him off! 😂

As we celebrate 90 years of Ilam Hall as a YHA hostel, stories like Gordon’s remind us why this place means so much to so many.
