Ridiculous.

“You may have noticed, or heard, that the benches that have been outside The Sole Bay, Southwold for many years have been removed. Adnams has been advised by East Suffolk Council that they now need to be covered by Pavement Licence Regulations, which falls under the Business Regeneration and Levelling Up Act 2022.

Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that these benches would meet the criteria required for a Pavement Licence and this would therefore put us in a very difficult position should an incident occur involving the benches.

Frustratingly, this will have an impact on trading and customer enjoyment at The Sole Bay, which is a small and busy pub. The team will continue to welcome as many customers as possible and as warmly as ever.

We are also working with Southwold Town Council, our Suffolk Country Councillor and District Councillor to explore further options and possible impacts at other pubs.”
