Ivanhoe Way Challenge

Ivanhoe Way Challenge An annual 37 mile walk around the Ivanhoe Way public footpath, in aid of Wishes 4 Kids.

The Ivanhoe Way Challenge is a annual 37 mile walk around the Ivanhoe Way public footpath in North West Leicestershire, in aid of Wishes 4 Kids. Starting at The Royal Hotel in Ashby De La Zouch, the route takes a clockwise path around the Ivanhoe Way. After passing through Staunton Harold Reservoir, walkers head over the fields onto the rocky outcrops of Charnwood Forest. Once through Whitwick the

y then head towards Bardon Hill before reaching the 3rd checkpoint at Stanton under Bardon. From here the challenge follows the fields towards Shackerstone, where walkers take the path alongside the Ashby Canal. On reaching the canal the next destination is Measham then Moira, where the walkers rejoin the Ashby Canal. The home straight is then in front of them with about 4 miles back to Ashby.

Dear Ivanhoe Way Challenge Entrants,

It is with deep regret that we have decided to cancel this years return of the Ivanhoe Way Challenge 2020 due to the continued developments of the Covid-19 Virus, It would be socially irresponsible of us to do anything else. I want to say a big thank you to you all for signing up and hope this has not been too much of a disappointment.

The good news is we will be back in 2021 so please keep an eye on updates as we post them.

If your interested in the Ivanhoe Way then you can investigate parts of the route yourself, you can find the route on OS Explorer map 245, the team would not recommend walking the whole route without the support network we had planned as this could be dangerous.
If you get the chance to walk small parts of the route then it would be great to see you post photos on our page, we love our little corner of the world and would love to see you all enjoying the country side (while socially distancing yourselves of course).

Our team will be walking the route this year and will provide updates to the website/page with our own photos and descriptions of the walk, any deviations we may need to take on the way round. This of course will all be in aid of bringing back the challenge for 2021.

I wish you all the best,

Regards,

Frank Bridge - Event Chairman
James Burrows - Event Entrant Administrator

Are you up for a challenge?

Ashby Ivanhoe Way Challenge, June 20th 2020
Sponsored by Ashby Round Table 507 for Wishes 4 Kids

http://ivanhoewaychallenge.co.uk/index.html

I am very pleased to announce the Ivanhoe Way Challenge for 2020 taking place in and around Ashby-De-La-Zouch.

This is a sponsored walk, fund raising for a fantastic local charity called Wishes 4 Kids. The charities aim is to grant wishes for children with critical illnesses and create a moment that will be treasured by them for the rest of their life and provide a time which parents will remember – that time when their child forgot about suffering.

The Ivanhoe Way Challenge is not a new thing, it was originally created by Richard and Angela Bebbington and ran from 2009 to 2016, all the while raising an incredible amount of money for the Wishes 4 kids charity. Unfortunately they had to halt their activity due to pressures elsewhere but have entrusted the rejuvenation and running of the event to us. We would like to thank them for their continued support and advice to ensure the challenge will be a great success for everyone involved.

The challenge itself is a 37 mile walk for teams of at least 2 people starting and ending in Ashby on Saturday June 20th. This is a massive challenge, stretching from Donisthorpe in the west to Bardon in the east and Staunton Harold in the North to Nailstone in the South, but do not be put off, our dedicated team will be supporting everyone along the way with opportunities for refreshments and food at regular checkpoints.

Registration is open now at the website, http://ivanhoewaychallenge.co.uk (other links are below and on the flyer). Why not get a group together for any reason you wish, be that a passion for raising money and supporting a worthy cause, the chance to see the fantastic countryside around the North West Leicestershire area, the thought of conquering an incredible challenge or the opportunity to do some real exercise while having fun with friends. Our website has all the details you will need, including registration information and advice for all participants regardless of their experience in long distance walking. If you do have any questions we have not addressed please get in contact via the website or e-mail address, [email protected].

So what are you waiting for?, get involved and get ready for a great day to remember.

This year challenge has raised at least £5,500. As the majority of the sponsorship has been collected we've had a very nice letter form the charity, stating where the funds will/have been spent. Without the support of you all this simply wouldn't be possible, Many thanks

Richard and Ange
