🔵 TODAY’S THE DAY! A SPECIAL MOMENT IN JAMES HERRIOT HISTORY! 🐾📚

Today, Thursday 8th October, at 3pm, we celebrate a very special occasion in Thirsk, in the heart of Herriot Country, with the unveiling of a new Blue Plaque honouring Alf Wight MBE – the world-famous James Herriot! 💙

The plaque will be unveiled at ‘Rowardennan’, Topcliffe Road, Thirsk, the house where Alf Wight and his family lived for 25 years from 1953.

🏡 This was more than just a family home – it was where literary magic happened!

Within these walls, Alf Wight wrote most of the wonderful stories that became All Creatures Great and Small, bringing the characters, animals, humour and beauty of the Yorkshire Dales to millions of readers and television viewers around the world.

💙 A particularly touching moment will come at 3pm when Alf’s son and daughter, Jim Wight and Rosie Page, unveil the plaque in memory of their much-loved father.

This is another proud moment for Thirsk and Herriot Country, celebrating the extraordinary legacy of a Yorkshire veterinary surgeon whose stories continue to capture hearts across the generations.

🐾 James Herriot’s stories travelled the world – but their heart will always be here in North Yorkshire!
