Winter is officially here π₯Ά While your garden is having a well-earned rest, your borders and planting areas still need a little attention to look their best next spring.
βHere are 3 Quick Winter Garden Tips from the Valley Grass Cutting team:
β1. Top Up Your Compost/Bark.
Spread a fresh layer of well-rotted compost or bark chippings around established shrubs and perennial plants. This acts like a heavy blanket, protecting the roots from the hard frosts and keeping the soil insulated from the drying winter weather. πͺ
2.β Tidy and Trim:
Winter is the ideal time to prune back most deciduous trees and bushes (those that lose their leaves). It's easier to spot and remove any dead wood or crossing branches now. (Just a Note: Hold off on anything that flowers in early spring, like Forsythia or Lilacs, until after they have bloomed.) βοΈ
3. βClear the Clutter.
Make sure you rake up any fallen leaves or dead annuals left in your beds. Getting rid of this detritus now stops pests and diseases from hiding over winter, reducing problems when the weather warms up.π
βCrucial Reminder: Remember to drain and put away all your garden hoses and protect any outdoor taps (or "taps") before a proper frost hits. βοΈπ₯Ά
