A few of our favourites from the archives 🕰️📸
Ballachulish Hotel was built in 1877 by renowned Glaswegian architect, John Honeyman, and has stood proudly on the shores of Loch Linnhe ever since. We've welcomed guests for nearly 150 years with our crackling fires and traditional features, which all remain the same - with a few refurbishments along the way!
Before Ballachulish Bridge was built in 1975, travellers to the hotel would arrive by the Ballachulish Ferry. From 1906, the hotel operated the ferry - at first, cars were loaded onto wooden planks and rowed across the loch. In 1912, the world's first motorised turntable ferry arrived, named 'Glencoe'.
Do you have any connections to Ballachulish's history or a story you'd love to share? We'd love to hear them 👇💭
