THE GLENS STORYTELLING FESTIVAL

Various venues in Ballycastle and the Glens of Antrim
The Glens Storytelling Festival is back with a wide range of live events, following two years of pre-recorded and online sessions. The festival, now in its 10th year, celebrates the beauty of The Glens area and of its rich heritage of storytelling and music. Public events will take place at venues from Ballycastle to Islandmagee, from Rathlin Island to The Sheddings. There will be story walks and sessions aimed at all the family. In addition a programme of outreach activities is being organised in libraries, schools and residential homes. Our local tellers and musicians will be joined by special guests from England, America and from across the island of Ireland. For full event programme please see the website. Lauren will discuss the People & Place: Ár Logainmneacha, Ár gCeantail Chomhroinnte project and explore the Irish, Scottish, Norse and English influence on place names across the Borough. Ballycastle Museum will have a special evening opening from 6.30pm to allow attendees to visit before Lauren’s talk. Following the talk, Museum Services will give a brief update on their activities and invite public feedback in an informal session with tea, coffee and buns. FREE Admission. You will visit the bars where the music has been kept alive through generations and at each stop will be treated to live music in your own personal ‘session’. The Ballycastle Traditional Music Trail brings you closer to the instruments, the people who play them and the language, customs and history that make up our vibrant musical culture and traditions. Join Causeway Coast & Glens Heritage Trust and terrestrial ecologist Nathan McIlwrath on a biodiversity walk at Broughgammon Farm. Together we will explore the rich native species which thrive alongside the environmentally friendly and ethical farming practices. As we wander down lanes with hedgerows, through flower-rich meadows and pockets of woodland, we will examine the interesting and unique plants and animals which call this place home. Sensible footwear and weatherproof clothing required. Complimentary tea/coffee provided afterwards. Free.
