New Ballycastle Leisure Centre takes shape as work progresses inside and out
From the swimming pool and bouldering wall to the outdoor Pump Track, Ballycastle’s new Leisure Centre is taking shape, with significant progress across the Quay Road development.
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has provided a further update on the project, which will bring a modern range of leisure and recreation facilities to Ballycastle and the wider community.
Designed for people of all ages and abilities, the centre will include a 25m four-lane swimming pool, gym and fitness facilities, an activity studio, a health suite, and a bouldering wall.
Outside, an Accessible Play Park, Pump Track and walking and cycling provision will offer further opportunities to get active and enjoy time together.
What’s happening on site?
Work gathered momentum over the spring and summer, supported by favourable weather and continued cooperation between the project’s key stakeholders.
The building’s indoor spaces are becoming increasingly defined, while outdoor facilities and the surrounding site are also progressing.
Glazing installation is underway in the pool hall, bringing the building’s exterior closer to completion. The bouldering wall has been installed and is awaiting final fixings, while most tiling in the swimming pool and changing facilities is now in place.
Individual activity spaces within the building are taking shape. Outside, the Pump Track is now in place, work continues on the Accessible Play Park, and roads, access and landscaping are progressing around the development.
More ways to get active
For residents, the visible progress brings the plans for the new centre closer to reality.
Once complete, the development will provide opportunities for swimming, fitness, climbing, outdoor play, walking and cycling, with facilities designed to accommodate different ages and abilities.
The centre represents a significant investment in local leisure and recreation, supporting active lifestyles and community wellbeing.
What happens next?
As work moves into autumn and winter, the focus will increasingly turn to completing the internal spaces and remaining external works.
Construction will continue across the building, outdoor facilities, roads, access and landscaping as the development moves towards completion.
