Ballyeamon Barn is a tourist hostel located 5 miles/ 8 km from the village of Cushendall, the main village of the famous Glens of Antrim, and just 40 miles from Belfast. The barn is ideally situated as starting point for trips along the Antrim Coast where visitors can experience the tourist attractions of County Antrim (Rathlin Island, Murlough Bay, Carrick-a-rede bridge and the famous Giant’s Cau

seway) or just relax with walks through the Glens, along Cushendall beach or the idyllic bays of Antrim Coast. It is ideal for walkers, cyclists, individual and group travellers who can enjoy the outstanding beauty and peace of what is said to be a magical and inspiring place. Ballyeamon Barn is a hostel with a difference as it has its own “session house” where visitors have the chance to hear local musicians and singers during regular evenings of storytelling and music. Owner Liz Weir hosts groups of visitors who want to experience the “real” Northern Ireland, meet the locals and feel part of the community, and they would be doing so within the rich culture and scenic beauty of the Glens of Antrim- with its folklore, music and dance. Liz holds weekly regular sessions of storytelling and music for locals and tourists. She also offers workshops on storytelling, creative writing, music, dance, and traditional crafts. For those who just need to take advantage of the restful and beautiful environment, she will provide “pamper weekends,” which will include reflexology, massage, walks, storytelling, and music. For those who enjoy horse riding, we can facilitate off road trekking at a picturesque mountain top location.

About the Event

Join us for Twists and Turns, an engaging 2.5-hour gathering featuring transformational storyteller Jim Brulé as he shares tales with unexpected endings. Along with these surprising narratives, attendees are invited to bring and share their own stories of sudden shifts and unforeseen outcomes. The session includes ample time for lively group discussion, reflection, and community connection over complimentary tea and biscuits.
Jim Brulé is a transformational storyteller, end-of-life doula, and educator who shares stories around the world. As director of the accredited Transformational Storytelling school, he trains storytellers from diverse traditions to foster healing, resilience, and spiritual growth. Grounded in multicultural wisdom, his global performances and workshops inspire connection through the power of shared narrative.

Ballyeamon Barn offers a choice of accommodation. We have the dorm which has 14 beds costing just £20 each.
Then we have the Loft at Ballyeamon which has a double bedroom and bathroom but can also accommodate up to four other people in our outer area. The basic price is £100 for two people. People staying in both spaces can make use of the full kitchen in the main
barn. We also have our studio available for
workshops and socialising .

Yet more sadness with the news of the sudden death of Jennifer Beattie of Eglinton. Jennifer was passionate about storytelling and often joined my Saturday night session. She completed our Storytellers Of Ireland Border Talk 5 course and was planning a brand new local storytelling circle in the next couple of weeks. Jennifer shared a story at the Artitude story circle at the Playhouse, Derry last Wednesday night. My deepest sympathy to her loving family. Life can be very tough. May she rest in peace.
