It pays homage to the soldiers of the First Battalions of the elite US Rangers which was first formed in Carrickfergus in 1942
When my guest & friend Walter Briggs who is an ex US Rangers & Vietnam veteran discovered this he decided to organise a Challenge medal to be struck
On the 28th of August one of one of these medals was handed to Walt by George the Museums curator

Hi Alastair - our recent American guests came in to visit with us on the evening of their tour with you. They considered it the most memorable part of their trip.
Ballymena and the surrounding villages have a more interesting history than we imagine.
We have many visitors from the USA,Canada, New Zealand & Australia who come here to walk the streets & roads that their parents & grandparents walked many years before - to sit in the churches,hear the accents and admire the views that their ancestors talked about, and never forgot

We were delighted to welcome Tom,Janette and Seth Kohr from Pittsburg USA.
They were keen to explore Ballymena town centre, the churches & graveyards
Also, Cullybackey village where Janette’s family (the Nichols) emigrated from many years ago.
Their excellent and experienced guide is Alistair Donaghy - they spoke highly of him and said he was exceptional!
